Thank you for the kind words. My first event is March 18th so I’m pushing to get all the last few bits wrapped up.

Getting close to firing this thing up! Just a few minor things to sort out. The new wiring harness took awhile to build. So far everything is working and the LED brake lights are super bright.

It’s alive! I got the racecar started and just working through the inevitable gremlins. I had a heck of a time bleeding the brakes. After I disassembled the new caliper I discovered that the caliper was drilled incorrectly and the bleed screw and second half of the caliper couldn’t communicate due to the drilling not lining up correctly to the banjo bolt. Then when I went to test for oil pressure I struggled to catch a prime. I ended up taking the motor back out and splitting it apart and found a pin hole in the brazing on the center oil pickup pipe. This was a brand new part from a reputable supplier… I ended up adding some silver braze to seal it up while the pipe was still in the gearbox. I put it back together and had oil pressure right away. Still learning how to tune the Weber. I had to get out and terrorize the neighbors a little bit.

I got out to the local track for a shakedown and the mini was amazing. I had a small oil leak but that will be easy enough to sort out.

Here’s a ride along. Keep in mind I’m not pushing the engine to red line yet as I’m still just bedding things in and making sure it’s all working.

I attended drivers school this past weekend and now have my provisional racing license. There were only a handful in my run group so I didn’t have much in the way of competition to race with. The track is called La Junta raceway and is part of an old air field.

Great to see the car out on track Cole, and sounding really sweet too! Fantastic.
I'm also really glad to see that my old Maniflow inlet manifold finally got the life it deserved! :) Look forward to seeing more updates and hope you keep enjoying the car.
All the best, Ed

Hey Ed,

Your manifold you sold me has worked out brilliantly! It was the perfect length and with a coat of gold ceramic coating for heat insulation it looks pretty racey under the bonnet. There are quite a few parts on my racecar that were sourced from members on this forum and I greatly appreciate having this resource available.

Cheers,
Cole

I had my first real race weekend with the Mini. I had a great time and met some really nice people. Sadly I was the only Mini in the field of 44 cars in the small bore run group. Ended up finishing 23rd in the run group and 1st in D-Sedan. Happy with that.

New wheels for the racecar. They are 10x5.25” EJB wheel from Steveston Motor Co. really happy with how they fit on the mini and they are 2 lbs lighter per wheel compared to the 10x6 Minilights that I had on there.

What do you think of those Hoosiers?

I really like the Hoosiers. They are a cross ply tire and are very predictable. I got pretty comfortable with the rear of the car stepping out and kind of drifting through the fast sweepers. Good traction coming out of the hair pins. There were a few times where I did nearly spin when I came in a little too hot, but each time when it started to spin it was easy enough to catch. I hope that makes sense. We don’t have many options for race tires here in the USA so I can’t give you a comparison to any other race tire unfortunately.

Cheers

We don’t have too many options either, Avons are/will be gone soon. Yokos don’t last long and everything else is really expensive
