The switch supplied to me in 72 by special tuning and the original in my rally wreck which are both stamped with their part # (as they were in period) but they don't carry the suffix A shown on the diagram.

Yes. The build sheet for DJB 92B for the 1966 Circuit of Ireland refers to the old type (with hose) crossed out and the new standard latest type as replacement.
The crossed out entry says: "Old type - fit hose for anti-rattle (check ease of change)."

Interesting that the heat shield entry says: "Fit asbestos to bulkhead under bonnet". How times have changed with greater knowledge of materials.
