BBC West Midlands - Motors and Music - Longbridge History

Post by Chris64 »

Apologies if this has already been posted, but a nice film from the BBC about Longbridge:

A year since mass car production returned to Birmingham's Longbridge plant - with the first of the MG6 models rolling off the production lines - MG Motor UK's Chinese owners say they sold 446 cars in the first three months of 2012.

That is better than any of the company's annual sales figures from the past five years, when it was producing the MG TF specialist sports car.

But the figures are a far cry from Longbridge's heyday - when the plant was the largest in a region of the UK which became synonymous with the motor car.

Here - with Professor David Bailey from Coventry University Business School, and Gillian Bardsley from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust - take a nostalgic look back at how Longbridge, and the whole West Midlands, gave us motors and music.

Cheers,

Chris

Ahh yes of course - I remember seeing the camera in your car! 8-) It was a good run.

The video is great and I like the choice of music! It's funny seeing my car centre stage for much of the video!

I don't suppose you would be willing to send me a higher quality copy on a CD/DVD would you please?! :) That would be fantastic if you still have it somewhere - drop me a PM if you like.

Cheers,

Chris

You can't beat a bit of Charlie Feathers on a Saturday morning.

I still have all the original uncut stuff on a hard drive and two versions of the finished video, one in WMV format and the other in MPEG format. Send me a PM with your address and I'll send a CD with the files on.

Regards

Agree about the music, I was going to ask you for the tunes, great thing I figured them out with the help of shazam, nice video and great cars.

Sorry if I'm going a little off topic but could you name a little more rockabilly artists like Feathers to look for?

There's a chanel on YouTube called SolidSmokeRockabilly that I subscribe to, the guy uploads stuff weekly and has a large amount of uploads to listen to. The quality is very good and covers old and new material, it's also a good way of listening to stuff before buying it. ;)

Here's a link to the chanel
