Mini Spares Cooper Grille Question

Post by jamiestevens94 »

Has anyone got any feedback for the Mini Spares Morris Cooper grilles?

Looking at purchasing an external release one for my 1967 and I've seen they do a stainless steel version (24A2158) which is currently £91.20 inc vat and also a chrome on brass version (24A152) like the original production cars would have had. This one is £153.60.

Main question is if they both good in terms of fitment and the cost difference of £62.40 is simply in the materials used? Photo with the Mini Spares logo at the bottom is the chrome on brass version). Thanks!

The difference not only material as per genuine but also in the bottom slat, which as a point end as per some years. Don't know the transition date, maybe someone can help on this.

From Minispares:-
"On production cars a chrome over brass grille 24A2158CHROME was fitted to many pre 1965 models. The grille "without" the lower outward slanted bottom slats 1966 onwards in chrome is available as 24A152. This lower slat was changed from a pointed type in late 1965 and fitted from Jan 1966 on to most cars.
July 1966 the chrome grille was replaced by stainless steel on BMC drawings but variations and spare parts have been proven to vary. ie..24A2158 BMC boxed versions sold on "fleebay" or at early shows or on some original cars have varied. Made in the UK."

"See 24A152 for alternative later 1966 onwards chrome on brass version without pointed lower grille bar."

"Cooper and S grille, chrome on brass for post 1966 cars. The lower slat was changed from a pointed edge to a rounded type as to comply with safety homologation laws in late 1965 and fitted from Jan 1966 on. Being chrome rather than stainless constant care is needed to maintain appearance."
