Is This Foam Part Available?
Is this foam part (shown in image below) available anywhere? (nb: Pic is of someone else's car)
After stripping out Tetroseal from my boot, the foam has become sodden with white spirit and liquidized Tetroseal. Not nice I'd like to replace it if I can.

AVOID THAT WATER/MOISTURE SOPPING FOAM LIKE THE PLAGUE. Just as I say and a zillion others have found to their cost, this stuff just sits there, sodden with moisture and sets about rotting your car

I would somewhat agree with Peter, however we used closed cell foam on the van. Plenty of places online to get it and cut yourself.
This is who I’ve used… https://www.efoam.co.uk/closed-cell-pol ... BSEALw_wcB

Good point!Peter Laidler wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 10:32 pm AVOID THAT WATER/MOISTURE SOPPING FOAM LIKE THE PLAGUE.
What did you do instead, Peter? Just remove it? Or replace it with something better (as mini_surfari mentions)
Also, just because I'm interested, was this stuff fitted originally?

Yes I think it was. It’s there to reduce fumes getting into the cabin from the fuel tank and exhaust via the boot.cobolman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 9:59 amGood point!Peter Laidler wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 10:32 pm AVOID THAT WATER/MOISTURE SOPPING FOAM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

As I read the page, I'm distracted by the word 'rigid' in describing the material. I'm imagining that the gap between the rear bulkhead and quarter panel won't be consistent and so, trying to jam some rigid foam in there will leave gaps in some, looser, areas and bleeding fingers in other, tighter, areas?
Love to hear how it's done.

Re: Is This Foam Part Available?
Agree with everything the others have said. Use a high density silicon impregnated foam if you must use anything.
Not too sure about the fume prevention answer Gary. My gut feeling is that the cheapo original stuff will absorb water and moisture as easily as it will absorb petrol/exhaust fumes and allow them to spread. A half decent boot lid seal should be doing that. That said, I learned my lesson and didn't replace it. To no ill-effect since the 80's - so far.....
That foamy stuff was also stuffed along the inner cant rails - along the interior roof line and most other open seams. Tin box, cold weather, warm passengers - or steaming girlfriend - and you WILL get damp and moisture.
Instead of using the word RIGID, think 'high density'. High-Density is a lot firmer than the cheapo BMC stiff. will compress and reassert itself into the gaps

Re: Is This Foam Part Available?
I have been for years using a new bit of foam because it’s easily available but I wrap it in cling- film like a sausage . That way it still compresses for the tighter parts …. Shirley

Armaflex pipe insulation. Armaflex pipe insulation is a type of insulation material made from CFC-free, closed-cell, nitrile rubber foam, also available in sheet form.

Re: Is This Foam Part Available?
I am guilty of putting the original foam back in. It is really soft and pliable, and I don’t plan to get it wet very often

It's the black material not the cheap grey DIY lagging it is more expensive. There are other make's.

"Kompriband" (whatever the english term may be) - is a foam that expands when unrolled and stuck in place. Below linked one expands from 8mm to 40mm max.
