Jump Starter kit Q

Anyone useing one of these very "Small" Portable 12v Jump Starters that cost about £60 to £80 off Amazon & the like.. thinking may be worthwhile to keep one in the Boot just in case .. Then asking do these Micro in Size 12v Jump Starters have enough umph to jump start a 10.1.1 compression S engine.?

Yes, brilliant little bit of kit - but you can't keep churning the car over on it. Great if you have left the lights on, but not for first start of the year.

Have a look at NOCO if you can stretch the budget a little.

I have a NOCO and it will start a 2.2 lt deisel transit no problem …..that’s after leaving it in the van for six months . Great bit of kit …. Shirley

I may be a bit old fashioned but I’ve always found my jump leads work really well, there’s always somebody “old school” to assist if I’m out and my trusty seat Leon if I’m at home..

NOCO for me as well. Mine has started a 3.0 V6 diesel from very very flat, and it fits in the palm of your hand. Handy to keep in the boot compartment of a modern car.

After speaking to a fireman about the amount of lithium fires they attend in London, I'd only buy well known brands now - and even they can have their moments.

Thank Guys as i need your advice .. like Dave i have ye-oldie very long welding cable Jump Leads that will start anything such as 24v Mobile Cranes with V10 Diesels.. However these days will be handy to update my Kit for "just in case "on the Minis & take with us in the Camper Van.. take your point regards "get what you pay for".. see that NOCO types they range from 500A to 4250A .. so would a NOC0 circa 1000A jump start a 2.2 Diesel euro6 ?

PS next time i visit the Supermarket i will now use a "WINKELWAGON".. a Netherland shopping trolley

I have the 1250A 'Boost X GBX45' model. Which from memory can start larger engines than the 3.0 diesel above.

Should I ever be worried about jump starting 'modern' cars with regard to voltage spikes damaging expensive electronic modules, ECU's, etc on either the car giving or receiving the jump start?

Result.. went to Halfords & got £30 off a "NOCO 1500a Jump Starter" has polarity protection & suitable for stop start systems so safe to use on car with ECU.. charges the Phone has Flashlight & will start a 7ltr Engine.. so on that basis should jump start a reluctant A series.

i signed up as a no pay Member of their Halfords discount thing .. that gives a Tenner off to start with but waited for more hence £30 off the NOCO GB50 x 12v 1500A starter..says it is polarity safe as no point in risking blowing up an ECU on a modern.

Some of the cheaper ones yes this can happen i would buy a good brand Noco as has been mentioned several times
A local Autospark had a cheap one and he unfortunatley fried an ECU in a renault Espace cost him £1200 for a new ECU
I suppose it was a Renault and they are notorious for easy upset electrics once they get a few years under their belt.
