Can anyone help with dates and models for these tappet chest covers, they are all different. I don't have the pipes for the swan neck type covers.
The Parnell book gives me this:
No 2 from left, could be 998 Cooper from Sep 65, maybe also 1275
No 3 from left, must be oil separator introduced June 64, for 998,970,1071,1275
No 6 from left, swan neck with old gasket design. 997 from Feb 63, 1071 and 1275
No 8 from left, early 997 ?.

Re: Tappet chest covers
My 67 Elf 998 engine has swan neck like 4 and 5.
Doesn't come with a down pipe. I have a couple of down pipes but they don't appear to fit over the swan neck and there is no stud on the closed fuel boss to attach it to.

Re: Tappet chest covers
The no 8 from the left is interesting. For the early 850 “works” cars two tappet chest breathers were specified. Using one of these with a standard swan neck would get that job done. I always wondered if they used a bespoke cover or took one out of the parts bin from other models.

948cc In-line block ...
The forerunner of the Mini .. the A35 .. lots of similarities except rear wheel drive. My engine contains a lot of Mini parts now and the bodyshell some Metro brake parts!

Re: Tappet chest covers
Re pair 2 and pair 3 (concave and convex)
Have seen both of those on 65/66 S`s - is there any logic as to why one should be fitted over the other ?
As they tend to block up, presumably they would of been replaced as service items back in the day ?
