Old Rubber Cones seperated from metal part...

Post by mab01uk »

I thought the rear subframe that my brother had started to clean up and paint out of our '59 mini restoration project looked a bit different but it appears the metal ring around the base of both rear cones has parted company with the rubber cone part and are stuck very firmly to the subframe itself. As expected the subframe is not original as it has the later Hydrolastic valve mounting holes on the rear crossmember but the cones may be of 1959 vintage.

I wonder if Bill or Trevor from the 1959 Register have an idea whether this was a prototype version of the rubber cone - without the metal ring we are familiar with.

I'm just checking if it has missed out on a vehicle manufacturer parts recall, before putting in a warranty claim to BMC:-
