Colin McDowell and Geraldine McBride got the category 1 win with the mini

There are some FIA cars in the historic, there's no requirement that they have to be FIA logbooked. I've never really looked into it but I asked someone who builds them last year what the difference is, and he said windows and fibreglass panels.
The modifieds are a different ball game though. It's escort overload, there's no shortage of money about, put it that way.

If you go back 15 years the entry has completely changed, there were loads of minis, imps, Porsches, cortinas, some MG and Triumphs.

As far as I understand it there's a limit of 150 cars, historic including post Historic gets priority entry

The recent Roger Albert Clark was totally dominated by Escorts aswell, not one Mini.

I was living in Ireland in 98/99, I went to the Killarney Historic both years, a Proper App K Porsche 911 won one of those years, an Elan did really well & a look alike Works MGB, Escorts have plenty of events they can ruin, let the drivers organise their own event

Minis on 10" or 12" wheels - I doubt it through the Welsh and Kielder forest stages, especially if used twice.
Looking at the regs for the 2023 Le Jog event, tyres were required to have the winter symbol. Are there any 10" or 12" winter tyres available?
Back to the Roger Albert Clark and looking at the Facebook image of an Anglia on a stage just SE of Kielder village the surface looked like Belgian pave or the Roman wall foundations.
13" wheels are a different matter as I noticed most of the 13" wheel cars were using Pirelli tyres.
Weren't the Swiftune Clubman race cars allowed to run 13" wheels and rubber as no 12" racing tyres are available.
If my memory serves me correctly in 1968 the Ford Escorts took over from the Mini as the Escorts had higher ground clearance and better on the loose stages.
I must admit that I do think the HRCR Rally Mini Cup competition series for rally Minis is very good but does need more competitors.
Back to Killarney. Has any one seen any images of Les Alfrey in his Mini?

You're not wrong there!! How much effort must have gone into keeping that going!

However, plenty of enthusiasm shown supporting a different sort of product from special tuning, the TR7 V8. Man I really wanted that to get a good result.

There was a good selection of historics outside of the usual blue oval brigade,Talbot,Peugeot,Opel,Volvo,Vauxhall,Porsche,BMWs and a few nice Minis were among the field.The modified is dominated by high cost Escorts of which there seems to be no end to the money being spent on them.Great weekend for spectators though.The late Craig Breen did 00 a few years back in a Metro 6R4,there was some noise off that as he drove through the valleys,great video on Youtube of it

The Stratos has had £2million worth of development in last few years…there was supposed to be a Mini on the RAC but it withdrew sadly. I wouldn’t take one near it, my 5th and it was insanely rough.
Missed doing Killarney this year, kind of Geraldine to keep my seat warm :lol:
