Late mk1 Cooper S wheel colour
I see a few ‘67 mk1 S’s with darkish silver wheels .
That’s correct isn’t it, or were they always OEW

Just thought the silver wheels had a ‘soft’ introduction on v late Mk1s. This sort of thing sometimes happens when a model change is imminent. I may well be wrong .

Re: Late mk1 Cooper S wheel colour
There are very few hard & fast RULES about changeovers, as can be demonstrated by MK2's with MK3 boot lids or MK3's with MK2 colour schemes. BMC / BL were a fairly rag tag operation by the late 60's and there isn't much of this sort of thing set in stone. Anyone who says otherwise is usually wrong

Very true. Lotus Elans as they progressed from S3’s, to S4’s and finally Sprints exhibited this soft cut off . Early Sprints were fitted with unnecessary bonnet bulge bonnets and silver wheels of S4’s presumably because they had them in stock.
I’m sounding like I have some weird obsession with silver wheels now ….

My late August 67 S registered July 68 had 4 1/2 Silver wheels from new as I was the second owner in 1973. It was one of the last mk1s and had mk2 type rear side windows with no piano hinge.

I kept a close eye on the Cooper and S scene at the changeover and into the Mk3. Silver wheels were a feature of the Mk2 cars. I understand only too well about the mix or old and new during the changeovers but I never saw a late - F reg Mk1 with silver wheels. They were a feature of Mk2's I say.

Re: Late mk1 Cooper S wheel colour
Perhaps my car had 3 1/2s when produced and was a dealer fitment to 4 1/2s in silver to get the sale but there was no heritage trace then So I was just lucky to have a mk1 S at 17 years old on L plates with mum in the passenger seat.

Family in the motor trade, 30 day cover note , new one written on expiry, agents for General Accident, if I bumped it and a claim was filed i would have been grounded , 75,000 in 4 years no claims. Happy days . PVF797F I see you back on the DVLA data base as from a few months back being asleep since 1983.
