Mid Covid, I was forced to reduce shop space due to rent increase of plus 100 percent. With half the space and less than thirty days to move it all, things got a little messy. The last few days I have been trying to set up my transmission work area. I became excited about transmissions as a11 year old kid doing motorcycle gear box repairs. I have yet to get a full count of what I have. I do have a 190 that goes with my 1071, I have two 333 Q with numbers stamped into raised area stripped and bare as well as two 1128 also stripped and bare. All will be going to my welder friend for fin restoration. This is something I began doing when sent two 190s for rebuild years ago. With rod change and 1128s I have 12 more waiting for work.

I think one 333 is marked 12FA12345 the other is 12FA7653 not sure what the #s mean. Steve (CTR)

Ha ha, I've never heard gearboxes called that before, we live and learn. Do you know how 'tranny' is interpreted in the UK Steve? I have a feeling it might surprise you? Sounds like some nice kit you have there

Just to help clear a couple things up. In 1968 I bought my first mini form Bob Williams my former scout leader. His best friend at that time was George Sykes, co-founder of Seven Enterprises here in the states in 1974. Those two were my source of parts and information as a high school kid. George referred to them as trannys when talking about gear boxes, for whatever reason. I think that predates any current use. Just as BMW has taken to word mini and applied it to something that clearly is not, times change. Steve (CTR)

The older generation here in the UK who worked on heavy plant , bulldozers , dump trucks , crawler cranes ect and who have mostly passed always called the bigger gearboxes trannies and as Pete says , he had a transister radio .

In the UK we seem to mainly use the term 'gearbox' for a manual car and 'transmission' for an Auto.
