If my experience if anything to go by, the seller has probably shared all the details about the car, but they just haven't got around to attaching it to the listing.

No wonder Derek doesn’t like Minis. . To be fair they’ve sold a few moody cars before (including that ex Chris Evans Italian Job Mk1 S rep with the non S engine in it that he swore was correct!) but how much effort do they need to put into researching these cars? I would imagine most auction houses dread selling Mini Coopers compared to most classics. Aswell as some great cars it’s also fair to say some of the most infamous ringers end up either at a dealer or going through auctions and most the time they just push them through. Often it’s too much agro for them to pull them but the smell of commission must be pretty overpowering. It’s a fine line isn’t it.

Most auction houses will always argue that they are the sewer pipe, not the sewerage. All descriptions are always hedged round by terms like "The owner says" or with little or no comment at all. And of course, it is always a bidders duty to do due dilligence.

That has always been the advantage of selling by auction.

As a great pholosopher once said.

BUYER BEWARE!

That might look cheap on the surface for a restored 970 (about £36k with commission?) but I suspect the fact that it was built from a logbook (one of a collection of logbooks that was sold off a few years ago) didn’t escape the buyers and the price probably reflects it. Nice car to own for someone either way!

As Auction results go the Iconic results across the board this weekend where all over the place. My gut feeling from last year and I think this year reinforces it , is they’ve got too many lots and too many ‘special/ famous owner’ type cars in the one sale.
The McRae cars should have done much better but realistically there’s a small pool who could probably buy one a year but not four at once…the biggest bargain of the weekend was a A35 for academy spec for £12500!

♥ lovely car - agree, it would be a shame to remove its authenticity
Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s :ugeek:

Brilliant car, would want to do just enough to get it driving again.
Guess it could well go for more that the guide price though although the buyers premium at 28% is a painful add on though?
So if it hit a top at £35k really means closer to £45k.

Commission was £15% Gary altogether so the final selling price was £40,250, I did bid!

I reckon that was still a great buy for a unique car that there may well turn out to be more to than was being described! (Ie it was raced in period!! Just like the PMS SD1 show car they also had built). I also reckon they’d have got more for it had they reduced the bidding increments from £3k to £1k but that’s just sour grapes on my part.

Would love to know who bought it and I do hope it’s not ripped apart and turned into a historic racer.

Same here would hate to see it spoiled.
Re-commissioned to get it running soundly again.
But not turned into a historic racer.

Hi

Anyone have any idea why the Merseyside Police car with the 970S engine in it (which was a 1275) is still for sale at Iconic Auctions?
