Fuel tank sender for 1963 Mk1
I am in the rebuild phase of my 1963 mini. It appears that the fuel sender is shot (open circuit).
It is a non-regulator, bolt in sender for 5.5 gallon tank which I didnt realise you could no longer buy. Anyone know of any companies out there that refurbish these? If not does anyone happen to have one going spare?

Hey Dave,
That’s odd this isn’t the right one for your tank. I have a July of 63 car and this is what I used in my tank. Can you post pictures of what yours looks like?

I'm gonna take this chance to give you a suggestion, I also have a Mk1 with that type of tank, but i had some troubles screwing the sender to the tank because the fuel licked trough two threads of the tank no matter how hard I screwed the nut.
So of your gonna fit a new sender I recommend you to screw the nuts backguards and this way there is zero chance of lickage, even if not necessary It may be a bit of an improvement.

Many software products like photoshop do it, but another easy way is to email it to yourself, and hopefully you will see differing size options and file size info. Keep it under 500
I have a 1071 with that tank and a NOS sender to go in it - the Minispares one looks correct to me??

I guess that is the original, mine looks similar from the inside. I also guess that the one in stock is compatible is not exaclty the same but made to work with this configuration

Also, the aftermarket sender of minispares has a wierd pic. The second one shows the cork gasket on the outside when it should be a place<<d between the sender and the tank

I've been messing with these recently as I assembled my tank after I got it back from paint.
The original Smiths senders came with the part number FT2330/05 stamped in them. Just below that, near the rim of the sender there ought to be a date stamp. Going by this you might be able to tell if the sender is the original one to your car. The format of the stamping is weeknumber_year
The year will only have the last digit, thus 1963 will be _3
If you have a multi meter you can test your sender, in the empty position the resistance of the sender ought to be around 3 ohms, in the full position it ought to read around 80 ohms.
The arm on the sender is bent in such a way for it to clear the pipe and the filter in the tank itself.
Now there is a second type which has part number FT2330/55 the only difference which I have been able to find on this compared to the /05 is the shape of the arm. It is still bent in such a way as to clear the pipe and the filter in the tank.
I don't believe the /55 is meant for a voltage stabilised car as they had already started the locking ring at that time.
The one now being sold by minispares has been manufacturedd to replace the Smiths senders, yet as with all aftermarket parts they do looks somewhat different to the originals. Originals do tend to pop up for sale from time to time yet are usually not cheap.

If you have a van/estate or early mini sender unit in your petrol tank it will be held in by 6 screws 53K165 and these are the special copper washers that go on them. The cork gasket is GUG705711GM.
