998 A-Plus onto Magic Wand
Good afternoon all, I know the question of 1275cc A-Plus onto an early 3-syncro 'magic wand' gearbox has been discussed before, I understand (aside from transfer gear compatibility etc) that some grinding/relief of the gearbox casing is needed to clear the 1275's crank. However, is this also the case for a 998 A-Plus? Has anyone done the same? I have a Mk2 Elf that I don't really want to go hacking around the shell and the change feels pretty good, but I also have a lovely, road rally-spec 998cc under the bench that's crying out to be fitted...

A 998 should fit, it's only the 1275 and 1098 that have clearance issues with the extra crank throw if I'm remembering right.
You'll need to use pre-A+ drop gears.
Maybe I should wave my SPQR MajorChange at you...

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Hi, I have a 998 Aplus with remote box sitting on the floor. The box casing is 22G1128. There's a plate that attaches to it to take the magic wand. Hope this helps. Doug.

Yes, I have a 22G1128 (although ADO16 diff cover
) as well which would be a good donor candidate...I think the Moke/later van-type magic wand parts for these are near unobtainable though.

22G1128 + 850 3 synchro diff cover is another option
