Main bearing studs and nuts
Hi folks, do you have any recommendations as to the best suppliers of main studs and bolts. Are ARP the best or are they over rated? Are the Minispares ones any good? Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Doug.

@Ronaldino thanks for that reassurance. I am about to send them an order so that's great. Cheers, Doug.

Re: Main bearing studs and nuts
Hi folks, short update. Minispares are out of the ARP main nuts. However I got a pack of ten from Demontweeks whose phone support was excellent when I rang about vat and all that nasty stuff. I can recommend them highly. I ordered the nuts today and they are already winging their way. Cheers, Doug.

Re: Main bearing studs and nuts
I am also waiting on ARP mains nuts for my S engine rebuild. Can I ask what torque setting is recommended when using these nuts with the standard studs if using ARP lube or normal oil.
Cheers Jim

All the ARP specific fasteners, like these, that I've bought in the past have come with a sheet that includes this advice.

Re: Main bearing studs and nuts
Hi, ARP nuts are no different to the originals. They're just better quality. Just make sure when torqueing them that there is no grease or oil under them ie between the nut and the corresponding face. Cheers, Doug.

Re: Main bearing studs and nuts
Respectfully, while the originals were good, the ARPs are light years ahead.
Also, while it seems to be 'hotly debated', it is important to lubricate all engine fasteners before torquing up and that is true of ARPs. While this is for Rod Bolts, they do clearly state lubrication of the threads and fastener mating faces;-

Torquing any fastener dry gives highly variable stretch rates.
Note too the considerably higher torque value given by ARP.

Re: Main bearing studs and nuts
Hi folks, may I start by offering my humblest apologies for giving incorrect information. I will check my facts in future. In my defence, the photo shows where I got the idea from. Obviously I mis-interpreted the word "clean" and took it literally. This was a mistake. I now have to pull my engine apart again and re-torque the big ends and mains. Thank you for correcting me. Doug.
