Interesting one that. Both plates look original, but the rest of the car certainly doesn't.Costafortune wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 9:25 am 'Right then guys.........'

Mmm. A very shiny partly deseamed Mk1 mini with some Cooper bits screwed and riveted on and running on 3.5 cylinders
As the man says.......You'd need to come and look at it

I'd love to have a leaf through the "history file".
May just take a trip up there this weekend

Don't you just hate it when they restore a Cooper and leave off the dash trim!

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Will cost a few bob to put the seams back which is inevitably what a new owner will want to do if they’re spending serious money so didn’t sound a horrendously low figure unless it’s got some really good history. A totally restored blue Island Blue flat pack S went through another auction recently and didn’t even make that much!! Prices really have taken a dive in the real world despite what dealers are still trying to sell them for! What are the odds that it was built from a de-booted Elf/Hornet shell?

Not Ebay, nor is it an auction. Just our local small ad portal.
SO this is what the very rare opportunity of buying an Austrian Mk2 Cooper S costs you. Or shall we say, what they ask for.
A bit dear imho, considering the wrong bits and bobs in it

Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s

Some interesting features - why is the steering wheel badge for an Austin and the rocker cover badged as an Austin when externally it is a Morris. Also no heater controls (should be a snail type fresh air heater?). Not sure the reverse rims add much...

Maybe its me, but I foocking hate reverse rims, especially on a standard car, why not put standard wheels on it ?
Not a good idea to leave your full address on the heritage certificate letter...

I agree on the reverse rims, but in general it looks like quite a nice little car.
It's an SDL on the Heritage Certificate though, not a Super.

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Well spotted on the heritage certificate but the colour scheme and interior trim is for a Super so perhaps a BMHT mistake? Yes I much prefer standard rims with super / super deluxe hubcaps to reverse rims. That paint is also way to shiny for me! The chassis plate looks quite new and seems to have been stamped from the reverse (as for a Longbridge built Austin) rather than punched (as for a Morris or Cowley built Austin). The absence of the heater the most obvious omission...
Seems to be attracting lots of interest. The grille is very rare.

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
A shame it has lost all its stainless wheelarch trims. Hard to find now.
I'm going to go against popular opinion and stick up for reverse rim wheels though . They were a very popular period mod when most of us couldn't afford alloy wheels and wanted to make our cars look a bit more racy

For many years 4 1/2" Dunlop Reverse Rims were also used by Mini Seven 850 race Minis to keep costs down, until in later years alloys came down in price and it became harder to find steel reverse rims in a suitable condition for race use. We even used them on our Special Saloon 850's for the narrower Dunlop wet tyres instead of the 6 x 10 Mamba alloys used for wider Firestone dry tyres.
