Quarter panel

Post by Mark1Peachey »

Is the quarter panel for a mk1 different to later cars? I'm changing the near side and ordered one but it came with just an 90 degree angle rather than the full zee section that will have the window seal on it. I've added a photo of the top of the panel to try to explain...

This is not really how I would like to replace the panel preferring to spot weld around the window aperture.

If that's a M Machine panel then that is how they are pressed.
I did that job on another of my projects and if I remember correctly I added the window surrond lip to the quarter panel which gave me the "z" profile.
I could then spot weld the top of the quarter panel the rest of the window surround.
A lot of extra work I know, but worth the effort.

The other flaw in this panel is the fact that it is not curved and tapered at the top. (Front to back)

i bought a quater panel from mini spares and its the same as your photo above, i just seam welded it on the window area, and it came out fine.

and welded it along the centre body line so once it was ground down you loose it in the sight round

i know what you mean, i have seen panels with more profile around the rear window area which makes it easier to cut in

with the curve front to back, your right i does not have much of one, but once it was clamped on it seem to curve right like it should

this is the rear quater i did
