Prescott - Fun Run Day 28th May - Cancelled

Post by Julian Harber »

It will be no doubt be announced soon (with the normal spin of how well they have done kind of thing) but the May mini event is NOT going ahead, the intention is to move it to September - again NO competitive runs only road going cars - be interesting to see what cars as they had already opened it up to British Manufactured Cars so that could be anything non mini to boost the numbers

Hopefully there may be a proper mix of competitive and road going cars at another iconic Hillclimb venue in the near future Pete?

I don't think the Bicester Heritage Mini event on the same day helped a week after London to Brighton.

i don't even remember seeing that on the Prescott events website, but then again I'm not surprised it's awful! Did last weekend go ahead?
Cheers

Bicester is a morning only 'assembly' on the 28th... different themes throughout the year

yes, we did the Cotswold Tour on the Saturday & the Drive It day on the Sunday, both were organised by the Winchcombe Rotary Club as Charity events which have nothing to do with BOC
We didn't do the Saturday at Prescott, we possibly won't be doing next years Cotswold Tour as the road surfaces are now so bad that our Classic is getting damaged

I went to Auto Italia at Prescott last weekend. There were more people there than for a British Championship event. I don’t understand how these non-competitive events draw such big crowds.

Not so surprising really, competitive events regulated till the pips squeek, ridiculously expensive entry fees, very little actual competition time and worse, little in the way of common sense prevailing.
Just now considering returning my invitation to Classic Le Mans 2025,being the 70th anniversary of my Triumph TR2 competing there, why? Well because they are insisting that I fit a rollcage to my totally original car, for demonstration/parade laps only.
Another FIAsco.

It can’t be that as there were only about 40 cars going up the hill the rest were spectators, same entry fee for them as a BHC day. It was the number of spectators I was talking about.

This is an interesting observation. I think it was in 2001 when I took part in the Italian Job Charity run we were told several times in advance that we should not go fast but follow the very experienced pace car which would lead us on the private test track. None of us could keep up!
On the subject of demonstration/parade laps; surely that is not one discipline. Race Retro, Group B and Rallying History type events have advanced significantly since the original Slowly Sideways demo runs where owners treated their VALUABLE hostoric vehicles gently. Currently, in my opinion speeds and skills have increased but I suggest that Demonstration runs (at speed needing an MSUK competition licence etc ) and parade laps should be treated separately. Look at the Blyton Park track day event which had parade laps at lunchtime behind the "control car.

It’s quite simply that most car nuts aren’t that interested in motorsport, most would rather go to a car show! Motorsport venues do very well when they can combine a live show with display cars, plenty of circuits are doing marque themed events aswell now.
As an event the Prescott Mini Day (which was an idea I came up with) really should have worked, it’s just a shame our communications broke down mainly as a result of the pandemic. I may well revisit this idea at some point.

I see there is the “Historique” on the 27th May, was that always planned or has it replaced the Mini fun day?

The Historique is billed as celebrating cars from the 1990s but also with:
Fassi Classic Hill Climb Championship 2023
Healey Sport Championship
Classic Marques Championship
Bert Hadley Memorial Championship
TR Championship
Bugattis
BOC Pre-1947 Handicap Class
BOC Allcomers Pre-1990

Looks like they are covering all bases….. classics bolstered by the enormous 1990s scene, ever watched Adam C on you tube ?

The "historique" - celebrating cars from the 1900s to the 1990s." The MiniFest was an add on, I think to the competitive Saturday.
