C pillar cream trim
Hi all,
I bought from Somerford a new set of C pilar cream trim for my genuine Mk1 Austin Cooper 66'. With surprise they seem to be quite different (size and pattern) compared with the original ones pick up from the car (in the left of the image the original!). Especially the width and length of the bottom...
Anybody experience the same "problem"?
many thanks for any suggestion.

Re: C pillar cream trim
If they are supplied by Newton to Somerfield then maybe they've sent you the wrong ones. I've just received the same from Minisport, supplied by Newton, and they are perfect.
They look more like mk2 trims which has a wider rear window.

Re: C pillar cream trim
That is the correct part number for Mk1 trims according to Newton Commercial but I guess they could have been incorrectly labelled.

14E220/1 is not the correct part number according to Somerford's website. It should be 14E4220/1

Re: C pillar cream trim
True but it is only missing one digit, probably just an oversight. Their part number for the mk2 is completely different, CPK002. If these are indeed mk2 trims the error is likely with NC labelling them incorrectly. Just ask Somerford to check more of their stock to see if they look more like you expect them to.

Re: C pillar cream trim
111Robin I checked the codes in the site, I think that you are right, .
I sent an email attaching all the images so they can check if there is a problem in their stock numbering....
Have you got any idea if there is any company that sell per metre the correct cream crackle material ?
grazie

Re: C pillar cream trim
I'm also having trouble with my c trims from Newton Commercial. Could not see how they could fit to my Riley elf which is a mk1 as far as the c trim goes. I thought the cut of the trim is wrong even it is the correct width due to smaller rear windows. Compared to the original I notice this: the vinyl is folded over the edge of the card on the NC trim. This implies the windscreen rubber also covers this 3mm of card+trim and that the trim does not wrap around the metal edge and glued to the outside of the car On the original c card the trim extends 10mm beyond the card and another 10mm to wrap around the metal body to be glued on the outside. Also, my original trim does not curve around the top of the quarter window - it more or less continues straight up. The NC one curves around the top of the window, but would seem to be correct for a mk2/3 mini which has taller quarter window. I plan to eliminate the curve around the top of the quarter window and peel the trim from around the sides of the card and cut the card smaller to match the original card. Oh. And I have already cut some card from the bottom and reprofiled the top edge. I really think Newton Commercial is vastly over rated - not quite the specialists thay have a reputation for. I bought an expensive set of "carpets" what a fn joke - does not have bound edges - not even "carpet". Seriously disappointed.
Hope this info helps. Good luck with yours!

Re: C pillar cream trim
Here's my Newton C pillar pieces that I fitted last week. These came via Minisport as their postage was £5 cheaper than Newtons. Very good fit, you just have to be careful when you poke the 2 holes through for the side window hinge.

Re: C pillar cream trim
While we're here, I'm just about to replace my Mk2 C post trims - as shown here. I can see the need to remove the rear seat and parcel shelf liner. But is there any way rouund having to remove the rrear screen too?

Re: C pillar cream trim
...Thanks guys for sharing your experience with me. I realy appreciate it.
To date I'm waiting the reply to my email by Somerford, in the meanwhile I've cleaned up the originals to see if I can save and reuse them.
The texture of the replicas seems to me identical to the original, while the color of the original seems a little bit lighter to me.....

Piece of cake once you've removed the screen. Tried it without removal and gave up.Peter Laidler wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 11:53 am While we're here, I'm just about to replace my Mk2 C post trims - as shown here. The texture of the new seems spot on to me and the colour is as well considering the existing has faded a bit over the decades.sanm72 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 3:29 pm ...Thanks guys for sharing your experience with me. I realy appreciate it.

Re: C pillar cream trim
Peter, I just warmed the rubber with a hair dryer, used a silicone spray whilst sliding it in behind a wide plastic scraper that prised the rubber out enough to let me do it step by step. 10 mins each side on a Mk1.
Are you using the fillets I sent you a while back by any chance?

Whistler I agree with you, 57 years are enough to modify "plastic" trim...whistler wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 3:40 pmThe texture of the new seems spot on to me and the colour is as well considering the existing has faded a bit over the decades.sanm72 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 3:29 pm ...Thanks guys for sharing your experience with me. Re: C pillar cream trim
Hi all,
this morning I received a kind email from Someford.
I report here the most important sentence in the email about the C pillars and the seller codes: "Sorry that you have an issue with your order. I have looked into this and have discovered that the manufacturer has supplied the wrong parts (the label is correct)."
