I remember the car well.In my early twenties i always kept diaries of work done for future reference.I rebuilt the engine in April 1975 at Downton .April
7th to April 11th to be precise. The car was sold at Bonhams in 2013 and immediately re-appeared with a hefty mark up.After that i don't know.I also recall Robin Fearon ,the carburettor man at Downton replacing the head gasket on a Cooper S.This belonged to a member of the Royal family .Robin
received a letter from Kensington Palace on very impressive headed note paper, hand written by the owner thanking him for a good job.I believe there
is some controversy over the date of the demise of this particular car.
I wish the article had been kinder about the Austin Maxi. Someone has to.

Sadly Alex Moulton, in this 1995 interview, was wrong about future downsizing of cars, judging by all the oversize SUV's /Chelsea Tractors that now seem to be the vehicle of choice on the roads of the UK and many other countries....
It is quite bizarre that with all the stuff about 20mph limits, pollution from tyres and brakes, pedestrian safety etc……that the physical size and weight of cars has has not been targeted yet. Smaller cars are potentially safer for other road users, use less energy to stop and go, less energy and pollution to make……..less damage to roads…..and most cars have one person in them
Old min8 looks like a toy next to new mini….
