MkII Plastic Heater Refurb'

Post by 111Robin »

Does anyone have any experience with refurbishing a MkII plastic heater casing ?. I'm not sure if it can be blasted with a soft media or rubbed down with abrasives then painted. The surface has a grainy type finish that's impregnated with white particles, presumably from a previous spray job. Tried polishing with T-cut, made it shine a bit but appearance still not good. Advice appreciated :

Thanks Ian, I'll give it a try. Did you hand polish or use any form of rotary tool ?.

Polishing failed to improve the finish so decided to flatten, prime & paint (semi-gloss). I think the finish is pretty close to original :

That's looking good now. I hope it doesn't scratch showing grey primer. ;)

Are you going to use letraset letters for the on off and screen ?

Haven't thought about the lettering yet Iain, just want to get it back on the car so I can get it running. I'll sort the details later. Getting there slowly....

The finished article (minus switch). Still need to add the lettering on the front panel though (when I can be bothered!!)
