hello all.
I have recently unearthed what i believe to be a 997 cooper gearbox, it turns but i have no idea of the general condition. It has been standing for quite some time.
it is a 22G68 box with also an "F" and "SM" on the stampings.(what ever these mean?) The laygear is 12G70, which i think i have worked out is a type A, 3 syncro box. I am not sure if the diff ratio just yet as i understand most were a 3.76 but an option was available..
so the question is , is this type of gearbox desirable or the reason it was replaced quite quickly being down to not a very good box?
is it worth more in parts than as a whole?
regards
Underkut

Re: demand for 997 gearbox?
Those would be A type gears.....early laygear..... the early 1071 S used these gears. (1st/2nd gear could be quite sought after as well)
May not have the B type 1st/2nd with that Laygear.
They appear to be in good shape...probably quite valuable Nice find. Would be a good set for a 190 gear casing.
