This is a short video from the 1966 Bathurst 500 race here in Australia which is a very iconic endurance race where in 1966 was dominated by the Mini Coopers,

"Ginger Marshall's aluminium bodied, space-framed Mini Clubman Estate leads off the line (Imp engine on a Mini gearbox), this is 1976 it is a Forward Trust up to 1000cc Special Saloon race, the 850cc Imp was on pole but didn't win."
The Imp engine mated to a Mini gearbox to challenge the Imps in the up to 1000cc class.

Do you remember Monty Guildford's Mini-Imp below?Roadrunner wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 4:02 pm That is how I remember Geoff Gilks car, the inlet and exhaust at the back of the engine
I always found the clever engineering of grafting Ford and Imp engines onto the Mini gearbox in the 1960/70's interesting when there were few other suitable transverse engine/gearbox units available for hybrid transplants into a Mini......unlike today. A shame few examples of the breed survive other than in old photos from back in the day.
I remember this Mini-Imp well and found this thread in link below with some photos on the Ten Tenths Forum:-
http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122899
"Monty Guildford's Mini racer fitted with an Imp engine, he finished it in 1973 after an 18 month build.
The engine was built and tuned by George Bevan but the gear box was designed by Monty and built by Peter Wise of Goodland engineering of Tonbridge Kent. The crank was a one off. Note also the exhaust coming out of the nearside A panel!"

Some fantastic footage of a sprint held at Sandtoft Aerodrome in 1966 featuring a superb range of 60's cars including a good sprinkling of Minis.

Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
Some nice black and white photos of the late Chris Tyrrell (Mini Se7en Champion in 1974, 1986 and 1987) - with beard/white T-shirt - and his Mini Seven, which I found in a box buried in my loft and had long forgotten I had them....I think the Leyland Mini Challenge sticker on the rear side panel says 1978. Chris was always a front runner and produced many of the leading Mini race engines and cylinder heads at the time from his small workshop in Leatherhead, Surrey.
More photos of Chris in later years here:-

That’s a cracker and looks like fibreglass doors as well?
Could have great fun in that.

That would be just my cup of tea!
From when is this article? Does the car still exist in this setup?
Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s

Re: 1960 / 70's Mini Racing Photos
Just my cup of tea too! The article was from one of the later issues of CCC magazine. Although I kept my 1960/70's issue of the magazine complete, a few years ago I only kept the Mini related pages from later issues to save space in my archive. Unfortunately these pages above don't seem to have a date on them. Also not sure if the car still exists or not.
