Hi, I see you have one of those metal 16 blade fans on the engine. I made some enquiry about these in another post. I have since tried one on my MG 1100, and it certainly can shift a serious volume of air, BUT it has a quite noticeable whine, especially as the revs rise. I was able to directly compare the 16 blade with the plastic 11 blade as I did the swap in about 1/2 an hour, so wasn't dreaming about the extra noise. Did these fans first appear on the first 1071 Cooper 'S' engines. If you can't put up with the whine, and it is quite distinct, you can change to an 11 blade plastic one which is much quieter. I also found that the position of the fan in relation to the radiator shroud is critical.....too far in, or too far out. just about halves it's efficiency. I was/am thinking about putting one on my race car where the extra noise will not be noticed!!

Cheers for the nice comments guys , must admit amco, i fitted the 16 blade fan because i quite like the whine it produces ..kinda makes up for not having straight cut gears , i`m just waiting on the carbs and seat belts now, plus i need to get saving for those Rosepetals, i might get lucky on those as a friend of mine has a set of originals with "cooper car co" embossed in the rims, but he`s not sure if he wants to part with them yet, so i may have to be patient a bit longer for those

Hi Cooperman....you sound like my kind of Guy....fitting a noisy fan because you like the sound of it!!! Priceless. My race car has straight cut...gears, drops, and a 3.5 ratio straight cut diff.....it sounds like a fire engine on the way to a job.....but I love it. Needless to say I wouldn't hear much of the fans extra noise.....it was better cooling that I was after. I have to say your restoration is amazing. I never cease to be amazed at the old piles of junk you guys tackle, like you, and end up with what you have. That takes some dedication. You deserve a medal.

Got my wheels!, my old mate Simon came through for me on these and has generously let me have them on the proviso that i weld up the rear end of his mk2 Cooper so he can get her in paint this year and fit her up for next years season, they were in great condition too, all they needed was a rub down and a coat of paint and they look good as new, what do you think?....



I think they suit the look i was after a treat, just need to do the black on the rear ones now


Got my seat belts back too, lovely job, well worth the £85 to get them re webbed, nearly there now, Beaulieu here we come!

"Original" Rosepetals did not have Cooper car co embossed in the rims.

I know because I have a set of corroded magnesium "originals"

the Cooper car co wheels where made by Vortz racing in the 90s i think.

They had to change the name to Vortz, because of rights to the cooper brand.

However nice wheels and car you have made

Hi Chris, thanks for the positive comments the lamp brackets came from minispares, they are the stainless ones, i simply painted them black to suit the age of the car better .Minispares number is XBU10046. £8.35 each
The rosepetal alloys were bought in the early 80`s so i doubt very much they are the `vortz` ones mentioned earlier in the thread that were made in the 90`s , however i do realise they are not original as in `magnesium` originals.

Nick was making the CCC rosepetals way before the 90's, there were two types, one had the S offset with an recess machined in the back face so it gave the correct race offset, you could then get a small spacer from him if you were running on a road car that effectively made the back of the wheel flat so you didn't have to modify your calipers, the other one was for the 998 setup he did, which has a cast in spacer on the back to give an S offset with longer wheel nuts. I think I bought my set in 87', and they were being made as far back as 84' even possibly before then, they are a great wheel, you are lucky to have a set

I think you are spot-on ...these are very close to the top of the caliper by the bleed nipple, looks like i will need to shave a little off the top to help them clear.
Got my carbs back from Gary this week so they are now fitted, just a few loose ends to sort and she`s ready for `firing up!`, hopefully in time for Beaulieu

I have a question regarding the wiring of your ammeter. You mentioned that it was wired to the floor start button. Could you describe in more detail how this was done? I'm trying to figure out how to wire in an ammeter so that it gives me a reading that represents the nett charge/discharge of the battery.

A very nice lady in Byfleet who used to work for Britax....so she knows a thing or two about seat belts
