Re: At The Auctions
Ah!
They forgot about the roof gutter drip rails when doing the body didn't they - and I notice it has the earlier door handles without the safety bosses which isn't right if the car is a '67. It all has an "over-restored" look to it doesn't it?

I think it's one of those, the further you dig the less glossy it appears..
Not the first time I've noticed this sort of car crop up on CC. I had a bit of a row once in the comments section with one vendor on there a while ago who was selling a car which quite evidently was not what it purported to be!

Presume you are you getting that from the actual number, not the prefix ?Simon776 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 11:23 amAlthough it has "Cooper S" on the V5C the chassis number, K-A2S4-1000684 is not Cooper S. Yes, S chassis numbers were allocated in blocks and 1000684 is not from one of those blocks. One block ended @ 985*** and the next started 1011***.Although it has "Cooper S" on the V5C the chassis number, K-A2S4-1000684 is not Cooper S. Re: At The Auctions
Yep, he wanted over £5k for an engine with an untested head (ie probably cracked) no bore size, and no crank sizes. Good luck to him if he got it but having been stung myself in the past with an S engine off here I’d say it’s quite a gamble.

Re: At The Auctions
Yes indeed its a gamble, but gamble on finding another I guess, especially having the correct box, block and head together?
A lot of this stuff isn't being advertised these days either is it, but sold amongst folk like us?

Re: At The Auctions
It is a complete gamble without breaking it down and publishing the bearing and bore sizes etc…. it was taken off the road for some reason originally, likely the head as Pete says, but might be multiple reasons, could literally be a very expensive anchor….

Re: At The Auctions
A nice looking 970 S coming up at Silverstone in February. Also of note are seven Lotus Elans with famous previous owners (Peter Sellers, Ron Hickman, Rob Walker, Jochen Rindt, Keith Duckworth, Diana Rigg) all from the same collection, the "Piddington Collection". I can't find any reference to this collection online, does anyone know anything about it ?.

Re: At The Auctions
Haha. Even Derek himself describes it as "Cooper S ish"
Still, as you say, a suggested 10k isn't expensive is it.

A beige 1973 Mk3 'S' on 'Collecting Cars', apparently re-shelled in 1976.. which seems a bit odd unless that's a typo in the description.

Very late registered one too if it's a genuine Mk3 S, almost two years after the last one was built.tweedy998 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 6:42 pm A beige 1973 Mk3 'S' on 'Collecting Cars', apparently re-shelled in 1976.. which seems a bit odd unless that's a typo in the description.

Re: At The Auctions
Question about the ‘67 car posted on BaT before my comment. It is badged as an Austin Seven. My understanding is that the seven badge was ended in January of ‘62. It is unknown where this car was built and it is also my understanding that some countries simply went with Austin 850. Did any country still use Austin Seven by 1967? Seems like it must be an incorrect badge to me but would love to hear if I’m just not aware of quirky badging in another country.

Re: At The Auctions
Found a mk2 brochure from the Netherlands that clearly seems to indicate that the seven name was still being used even when the mk2 came out…would love to have confirmation from someone https://www.brochuremuseum.nl/austin/au ... lfold.html

Re: At The Auctions
It's very 'wrong' from a purist point of view - 1300 block, Mark 1 speedo nacelle, post '76 850 back seat etc etc etc. You'll probably find it was built from a new shell and bits in 72/3 and registered as a Cooper S with a LVLO (pre DVLC) chassis number although what DVLA have is a commission number, B20S102550A.WMU 211G wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 7:20 pmVery late registered one too if it's a genuine Mk3 S, almost two years after the last one was built.tweedy998 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 6:42 pm A beige 1973 Mk3 'S' on 'Collecting Cars', apparently re-shelled in 1976.. which seems a bit odd unless that's a typo in the description.

As for what happened after that - Christ knows. Could be legit or the usual Jackanory episode.
But - for 10 grand it's a deal if it's as good as it looks. You can't buy a decent 1275GT for that now.

Re: At The Auctions
A bright little Mini but that's a bit of a "Bitza" isn't it? Earlier heater, no safety bosses on the door handles, dry suspension? I think it has the crushable sunvisors(?) and it has the correct seat pattern for a '67 (although I think it is all new replacement). The (incorrect for 1967) boot badging is all over the place isn't itiain1967s wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 1:42 pm Looks like a nicely restored ’67 on BAT.
