swiftune lsd
I'm building a swiftune dogbox , and need to decide whether I use the tranx mk6 or the ATB
as its only for hill climbs not 100% race I was thinking the ATB as there's a big saving in using the standard mini crown wheel
thanks . Nick

Re: swiftune lsd
use the atb
they are great, and an economic choice as you can use a standard cwp and as they come with the outputs you can use either potjoints (booo) or buy the auto convertors and use hardy spicers.
I would only use the plate diff if it was a balls out hard use race car

Re: swiftune lsd
I think I have some CWPs machined for posi from OE sets. I have always used a 4.35 in anger. US Solo 2 and autocross think you call sprinting. Race the clock. may have a 3.9 and a 4.10 will take a look. Do have SC 4.20 NOS, planning to use if I autocross again. You will love the Swift box. I would drive one on the street if I had a standing start one. We have the 70 mph first gear set but we get green at 50 mph. Steve (CTR)

Re: swiftune lsd
Thread resurrection ….
Can I ask which way you went in the end Nick and how you got on ?
Just that I am wrestling with exactly the same question re the diff and usage
Cheers

Re: swiftune lsd
I originally went with the ATB, which although a great diff for fast road use, was not quite up to hill climbing in my mini.
After one season, I switched to a NXG plate diff, which literally is like it's on rails compared to the ATB.
Only down side is you'll be convinced the hole diff is collapsing first time you drive it
as its locks and unlocked locks when driving slow and manuvering . But first time you put some power on in a bent, you'll feel it stiffen up and you can feel the extra grip.
After a few events it soon starts to loosen up a bit ,but should last for a few years after this.

Re: swiftune lsd
Thats great thanks for that update, much appreciated
The cheaper and simpler solution (ATB) was sounding quite attractive, but I just couldn't get my head around what would happen to the unloaded inner wheel on corners....
Can I ask what preload you used on the NXG, I have seen various figures quoted from 30lbs to 65lbs
Cheers Marc

Think it's the higher figure, but can't remember to be honest, I'll ask Rich who installed it for me
