Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
Those ebay carb's they appear to have an odd set of pistons one appears to have been flowed and the other is standard.AndyPen wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 4:21 pm This ad seems to be pretty much what my sets look like - hope it helps? I see the two spring extensions in your box of bits.

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
Are these the correct float bowls for the carb tags listed. Finally pulled everything out of the cleaner and can now read the part numbers on the castings.

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
Nick. I believe the correct number is AUC4814 and they would use 2 of the RH floats for the LHD setup. The other float is AUD4815 & also 30deg.NicholasUpton wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 4:43 pm Are these the correct float bowls for the carb tags listed. Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
I assume they are correct, no AUC but cast with 4814

Yup, those are them. You can see they're 30deg and not the more common 20deg ones. The omission of the "AUC" may be reproduction ones?. (Burlen sell some), but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure someone else here can confirm that..

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
They are original SU bowls not burlen ones .
The most difficult item to find to build up a set of H4,s with 30 degree bowels

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
My 4814 is cast with the number only and no “AUC”
But the 4815 is cast with AUC

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
Nick, what type of cleaner did you use on the on the carbs ?? The cast aluminum is very clean and bright.
I have used carb cleaner in a 2 gallon pail from the auto parts store.
Thanks

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
I found Mark had a clearer scan of the H4 sets in AKD3509, starting at page 450
https://mk1-performance-conversions.co. ... KD3509.pdf
Another quick question for the experts - did any of the special tuning sets have the "fast idle" parts like these? I can't see them in any of the parts catalogues for the mini setups. I assume on a racing mini you'd just hold the throttle down till it warms up And sorry for all the questions, apparently "H4" is an unsearchable term on the forum so a bit tricky to find old info

Re: Special tuning H4 carbs
I found this to be a very interesting thread and topic. I have what appears to be now a set of the works H4 carbs. A few observations are that it has the 661 manifold the 4814 and 4815 float bowls. The fast idle cam parts were not on the carb and the carb body does not even have the boss and tapped hole for the pivot pin for the fast idle cam. I always found this strange. It does have the choke lever lifting wires that attach to the choke cable.
Just a few bits of info to further identification what carbs you have.
