My latest and a Morris

Post by davidnutland »

I brought this one home to day, not a barn find but it has spent 5 or 6 years in a car port, started life as a 997 in 1963 and ended up as a 1300 hill-climb/sprint spec car and put away after developing a crank-flywheel problem at Goodwood. A new crank and flywheel and a good balance will sort it out.

I also like the look of the Sebring sprite lurking in the back.

Thanks guys, I have got to decide what I am going to do with it now! In the meanwhile a couple of historic pictures.

This picture looks like it was at the end of probably its first rally outing where it was running a 998 motor - 1996 MCR Downs Navigation - grille removed to adjust the slipping fan belt.

Yes the Downs I think Simon, you did a few miles in it, I still have the 998 Cooper engine, it was in the Innocenti until very recently and still pull like a train!

We won the 1996 Downs and the 1997 MCR Road rally championship in it - a quarter of a century ago :o

Any idea what the event is in the colour picture? Probably an MCR event as Paul Wilson and Alison Lock seem to be competing.

Checked the Downs records and Alison Lock only completed in 1997. So that is the event.

I like the supervisor, 7th photo, with his hands in his pockets. Clearly offering advice on how if he was running the show, he'd do it this way - and it'd be fixed, up and running by now. Don't you just love 'em.....?

But nowadays, he'd be saying......"Do you know you've got the wrong washers under the screw heads holding the radius arm shrouds on"
