Clearly its a clubman front end.
But I reckon theres a leading number before the 89. There seem to be two rivet holes for a 1, 2, 3 etc, though possibly not a 7.

Would this of been raced by the factory or would it be a privateer at this time ?
Might of been some one just having a laugh ..

Re: CRX 89 B
You’re putting up some fantastic pics of works cars Stu….thank you.
I remember the hype ( and the mutterings ) around CRX 89B being revealed after restoration in the late 80’s. I was a teenager at Beulieu and didn’t pay much attention…….all I wanted was a fast mini Since then CRX 89B has created lots of great history in Alistars ownership.
I’m interested to know what happened previous to this, since it left the works…..and was pictured as Clubman / GT bodied car as shown in previous posts. Don’t all rush at once

Re: CRX 89 B
Interesting pictures of John Steadman on the 68 RAC (No 57).
Entered in the main event for Groups 1/2/3 rather than the separate parallel event for Gp5/6 cars but lacking trim (grille surround) for the full RAC Rally. (The Gp5/6 event was titled the European Club Rally).
Not listed as a finisher in either so the only explanation is that it was switched to the ECR from the full RAC after the entry list was published but before the start.
Or it ran in the RAC in non-compliant spec.....

Yet more BMC photo retouching there. The '65 Circuit of Ireland car has small extensions on the wheel arches and a cut down 1800 grille. The door number is the biggest give away.
