The father of an associate of mine used to own YMO 886J back in the early 70's.
Believed to be an EX Works Clubby built for a particular Rally, but never used by the Comps department and subsequently sold off.
Is this the case and is the car still about.?

Hi Inimia,
I dont have the book on the works Mini,s but there is a YMO 881H on the Guy Smith Works
page.
That is close to the one you look for.

YMO is definately a works type prefix. I'm not up enough on the works cars but no doubt someone with more knowledge than me will either recognise it or know something about it.

Don't know much about its history, but it's still around and competes in historics.

Bit in Graham Robson's book on YM0 886J and sister car 885J, extract here:

The car still exists I believe, Dave Gilbert offered it to me in the 1980's it came with 12 x 12" Minilites the shell had a broken back but it was very original, all for £2,000 I was buying a house, so I had to wave goodbye to it.
Tim Harber had the original dash panel until faily recently.

That dash panel has done some mileage in the last few years !
Some pics of the car, used to be owned by one of our posters I believe, don't personally know the current owner though I could find out pretty easily.

I had a good look over this car at Bealeiu earlier this year. I am building a replica special tuning clubman and the owner (Andrew) very kindly let me photograph details and parts of the car as guidance to my project.
The car is in exactly the conditoin shown in the photo's above - with the 8 port and webers.

Thanks again for all the info and pics.
It seems that when he bought the Clubby it was fitted with an 8 porter.
All the info has been passed on to the previous owner.
I'll bet he regrets selling it now.

I see it is badged at back as a Mk2 S - given the quality of the resto I presume the works did that? Would have been a 1275GT wouldn't it?

Clicked on the wrong end of the General Chat thread and found this from many moons ago!
Is there stuff on this thread that could be added to the Works Minis sub thread?
