fuel smell

Post by nickacb »

Hello everyone, is it normal to a certain point to smell some fuel when driving a mk1 1960 mini?. I mean I dont have any leakages to my knowledge but still the smell of fuel is kind of present when driving it.

thanx

I get the smell if the needle valve in the float chamber is NOT sealing properly causing an overflow.

Also check the fuel tank breather pipe in the boot is in place, fitted tightly to the tank vent outlet, has no splits in the pipe and is vented to the outside air through the boot floor. It is quite common for this to cause fuel smells if damaged or dislodged as the rear bulkhead is not totally sealed to the interior.

Yep........., JUST what happened to me. You get the distinct smell of petrol but can't immediately identify the leak. I found that the smell was caused by the fuel that had contaminated the old fuel hoses and while it wasn't leaking as such, the fuel seepage was definitely WAS the cause of the smell.

It didn't take long before the seepage became a dangerous LEAKAGE. Get your fuel hoses, tank fuel gauge and filler cap seals changed for ethanol resistant types pronto.

For heavens sake, do it PDQ, if not sooner
