Oulton Park Gold Cup 2022 July 29th-31st July
All change for the Gold Cup this year with a new date and new clubs organising the races which look fantastic. Im entering my racer in the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy with Simon Goodliff driving. Should be a really good event!

At least this will guarantee a good grid for both touring car races as the HSCC grids have been a bit small. And some of the other races look interesting, with a similar line up to the Goodwood Members, but for half the price.

Huge 37 car entry for the 45 minutes Jack Sears Trophy on the Saturday. Nick Swift will be taking on the big boys!
It’s 58 years since Minty first did this event and will be on display there over the weekend with a couple of laps of the track on Sunday. Shaping up to be the best Gold Cup meeting for many a year.

We should be in the first grass paddock on the left as you come in (with the Hornet). See you then.
The HRDC grid might be huge but the Masters grid is very thin, one’s half the price of the other and you can run the same car so doesn’t take much working out why. A little rain on Saturday could make it pretty interesting!!

Re: Oulton Park Gold Cup 2022 July 29th-31st July
Great to see some of you at weekend. I originally planned to run the new racer with mate Simon Goodliff driving but it just wasn’t to be so I joined the HRDC party anyway helping Neil and Simon in my old Hornet. Neil did great, wet conditions definitely suiting the Minis on Saturday, finishing 9th from a 37 car grid. The race was won by the hugely impressive David Dickenson in his Lotus Cortina, helped by the drying track but the slippy track didn’t seem to slow him much!
Took Minty for the Concours d’Esprit on Sunday, something I’d been flattered to be invited to take part in after a chance meeting at Aintree. A very eclectic mix of cars, some real rarities, some were competing on the day! The back story of the car and it being very much used seemed to be the appealing factor that earned Minty a 2nd prize and a bottle of champers that myself and Anita Taylor polished off in no time. . It was nice to see her and she was quite taken back on first sight of Minty in her old livery. Lots of chat and many stories were told, many of which can’t be repeated. The sun also came out on Sunday, and it was nice to do a few laps of the track in the car. MacMillan had also arranged to do a thing with me to publicise fundraising and the odd way in which I’ve managed to do it (much to the credit of you all on here!). Trying to reach £20k and very nearly there.
On the track, the special saloons and Grand Prix cars were the highlight on Sunday, Masters suffering from a lack of entries. They always struggle up north, probably why they rarely venture up here. Swifty and Cullen put on a decent show though, not sure what happened to Brian Johnson on the day. He probably got tired of being mobbed.
HRDC was great on Saturday, much more relaxed vibe and varied entry compared to Masters, from pro run teams right down to the guy who’d just bought a Mini, never driven it but raced it with his son and finished ok despite his gearstick snapping off in qualy! The Davies brothers also did well in their dad’s old Downton racer and who were a pleasure to meet.
A really enjoyable fun weekend!
