ULEZ Expansion Planned in London August 2023

Post by surfblue63 »

The Mayor of London has asked TfL to consult on proposals for expanding the Ultra Low Emission Zone on 29 August 2023 to include the whole of Greater London :o

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra- ... n-for-2023

Wonder how this will effect all the car shows and events that take place there. Looks like London to Brighton will done for, Bromley Pageant of Motoring only for cars over 40 years old. Just think, if you've got a classic Mini that was built after 1982, you will have to pay £12.50 just to leave your drive, no mater what event you are travelling to, and if you go outside the ULEZ you will probably have to pay twice.

I live outside the proposed ulez but travel into it to pick up my paint materials. The owner of the paint shop I’ve known since school is looking on relocating outside of the ulez because of this . So we’ll done mayor khan . …. Of course the air doesn’t blow into London ! … Funny that we had tha sahara desert sand land on our cars twice last month …. Ken

The road I live in is in Surrey but one end of it exits across the border into the London zone and the other end is in Surrey. If the ULEZ Expansion goes ahead next year, when I turn left down my road in my BMW 320D I will be charged £12.50 whereas if I turn right down my road staying in Surrey there is no charge.
Suprisingly my 2002 petrol R50 MINI is exempt from ULEZ.
As said all vehicles that have a historic vehicle tax class are exempt from the ULEZ.

There might be an increase in demand for pre-1982 Mini V5's on ebay in the London area....

The London to Brighton Mini Run moved the start to Cheam this year as Crystal Palace no longer wants polluting cars in their park....but despite being in Surrey, Cheam is just over the border and actually comes under the London Borough of Sutton!

Whats even more pathetic is that Ferrari have just released a Hybrid car, so it can go into the Low emission Zone for nothing. What is pathetic, is that this new car can do 15 miles just off the batteries at 84mph.....great! a round trip between Harrods and Selfriges...

Andy Burnham tried this in Manchester a few months ago, no consultation, nothing, wasted millions on signage and cameras across the whole of his Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone (500 square miles!) and it didn’t take long for him to be told exactly where he could shove it. Most of us in opposition to it understand the problem and how pollution needs to be tackled but he tried to introduce a similar daily charge for any pre Euro 6 vehicle which would have massively affected thousands of businesses and jobs overnight. He’s now gone away to have a little rethink.

Then how long before Euro 6 cars are targeted and only hybrids and electric cars are free to use ?

Have to smile when the website says ‘most cars are compliant’. … I wonder how true that is ??!!

As it stands my daughter’s 57 plate KA is compliant but not our dirty diesels.

You’d still have to pay the congestion charge to get to Harrods. Hybrids aren’t exempt from that.

Not been to Birmingham since they started charging on my 2006 diesel and won’t go there again.

Congestion Charge starts at the Hyde Park uderpass, so Harrods is outside it. If you go up the mall, right at Marble arch and miss all the congestion charges and then you are at Selfriges. My point was that having batteries that take you 15 miles doesnt make it a hybrid !

Can "any" V5c Historic Vehicle be exempt from all these ULEZ zone charges if it is pre-registered with whoever says so in London ..or do you need a home address within the specified zone to absolve that Historic Vehicle from these charges ?

All historics are exempt whether they reside in London or not. Just make sure your car has historic status with the DVLA.

You can check what charges (Congestion and ULEZ) you would have to pay here.

My 2002 R50 Mini (petrol) is exempt from ULEZ according to their website vehicle checker.

Find out if your vehicle meets emissions and safety standards required to drive in London, or if you need to pay a daily charge:-

Or buy a fair ground ride, apparently no charge for showman's vehicles

Showman's discount
To apply for the 100% showman's discount, or to prove a vehicle is exempt from either scheme, you will also need to provide four photographs of the vehicle (front, sides, rear and interior)
.

The real issue is it makes it more expensive for normal people to live in central London, of course any trades man or delivery company etc.....will have to ( and do) add all the costs onto their bills.......

Meanwhile Sadiq Khan the Mayor of London is being driven around the capital in a £300,000 armoured 5-litre Range Rover....It is understood to be a Range Rover Sentinel, Land Rover's protection vehicle which is kitted with armoured glass, under-floor blast protection, spike-proof tyres and an emergency escape system.

"Sadiq Khan has insisted he remains committed to “taking action” to tackle road pollution despite a backlash against his proposed expansion of the ultra-low emission zone. About two-thirds of respondents to a consultation on widening the Ulez across Greater London are reportedly opposed — amid claims from whistle-blowers of negative responses being disproportionately excluded from the results. But the Mayor, in an interview with the Standard, said the consultation was “not a numbers game” and added that it was vital to further reduce the threat to public health from toxic air.
“The idea of parking things or kicking the can down the road is not an option,” he said. “The easy option is to dither and delay. I think it is important to take action.”
Mr Khan said he believed the consultation, which closed at the end of July, had been “hijacked” by opponents, including people living outside London.
He is yet to receive a report on the consultation results from Transport for London — it is due by next month. The Mayor will then decide whether to press ahead with plans to expand the £12.50-a-day Ulez across all 33 boroughs on August 29 next year.
He indicated the scheme’s widening, dubbed the GL-Ulez, could be modified if he received responses raising “substantive” issues but insisted a “crude majority” opposing its expansion would not automatically lead to the proposals being ditched.
“The decision to expand the Ulez to all of London isn’t predetermined,” he said.
“I have not made up my mind. What I’m clear about is: it is not a numbers game. This is not a referendum. If there is a crude majority of people for it, that doesn’t take me over the line, or a crude number of people against it."
It was reported last weekend that 66 per cent of respondents opposed the plans, with only 24 per cent in favour...

So what is he doing about the Underground, the place that has the worst air pollution of all, especially all the metal particles from the train Brakes. He should think about putting proper ventilation down there, then Londoners would not suffer from the effects of so much air pollution.

So glad that I, nor any of my family, live in the GL area anymore.
