Houndstooth cloth
As I posted in other thread, for a while, like 3 months ago, I saw a company from Japan selling seat covers with the basic cloth trim. They never advertise again, but probably there is link for those interested. I cannot really tell if they sell the covers or the cloth because the google translator just show disconnected phrases. Still, the picture comparing the old seats with the new is exaclty the same as the one used by the company on ebay.

Re: Houndstooth cloth
The link that you sent mainly talks about their project on trying to copy the original 59 seats using the houndstooth fabric (they said it took over a year to develop the fabric using Japanese technology). The seats that they made included piping on the side of the seat, while the original seats lacked the piping material. In addition to making a seat cover, they produce wallets, etc. using the same houndstooth fabric. You will need to contact them if you want something made with the original pattern material at:

Yes, http://www.1959miniregister.com/for-salewanted/Is there any chance to buy something similar in europe ?
It took us under 3 months to develop using English Technology. The link that you sent mainly talks about their project on trying to copy the original 59 seats using the houndstooth fabric (they said it took over a year to develop the fabric using Japanese technology).
Price is now £150 per sq m not as advertised (still need to change that on the site)

Re: Houndstooth cloth
If it was not so expensive, I'd definitively order a tool bag for my red mini, it would look cool in the boot.

Re: Houndstooth cloth
we could have done our front seats with bills cloth which looks spot on,,but sadly ours is "foreign market" type and a slightly different pattern
we have seen numerous ckd and even irish basics with different cloth
suppose they used "locally sourced" woven cloth
even on some uk ones ,depending on age,,the weave and colour varies considerably..
the ones in the jap picture look good,,late 61 and pre mar 62 spec...
nice!

Quite agree Rich, it's a minefield.
The cloth in Japan is 18900 yen per M (which is £156) and he has 40 meters in stock.

The traditional colours are black and white, although we make houndstooth in modern versions with more colorful substitutions. It can be used in constructing clothes like womens dress, Jackets, Skirts and home furnishing items. KocharTex supply woolen "unwanted url" to all leading apparel exporters and garment manufacturers in India.

Re: Houndstooth cloth
Been lent the Simon Garfield book and noticed acouple of pics I had never seen before, one of which is this. I'm sure all the Bill's know it like the back of their hands but it's strange how a prototype seems to have made it into print. Look at the detail and you can see what I mean

- Sliding window glass seal is on front glass instead of the rear one
- Lower door seal has carpet on exterior side
