2012 Northumberland Borders Rally

Saturday 10th March 2012

The fifth running of the “‘Borders” will feature a similar format to 2011’s successful event of a half night road rally with no nonsense route instructions and a challenging mixture of roads.

It will explore approx. 100 miles of new territory on OS maps 81 (Alnwick & Morpeth) & 88 (Newcastle upon Tyne), with less than a mile of whites. The event will start and finish at The Brittania Hotel, next to Newcastle Airport, which has easy access both to the A1(M) and A69.

For novices and first-timers, we'll also again be running the Tynedale Rally. This will cover approx. 2/3rds of the Borders route and involve much simpler navigation.

Good stuff Graeme but let me know if you're struggling to find someone to sit next to you as i might be able to help - there were a couple of good local navs. sniffing around for a drive on this year's event that didnt get a run in the end. Is Ali P not available? Niall.

Unfortunately, Joe Norman/Mike Garstang have had to pull out due to a shoulder injury Joe got when it was icy but we're hopeful of a few more come 10th March.

The course car has also changed from a Volvo Amazon to a Mk1 Golf GTI.

Still, if they're good enough for the Monte Historic!

Thanks to the welcoming, friendly lads and lasses in the north east on putting on another cracking route on super roads. We had a good turnout from my neck of the woods, i keep telling everyone, have a go at this event! Our trip made sweeter with a second win on the event .

An enjoyable night's motorsport - many thanks to all involved in putting on the event, especially Niall.

We had a few interesting battles playing leap frog with other competitors and obviously a couple of cock ups which put us further down the results than hoped for but, as a completely scratch crew, I don't think I can complain.

Can't wait to see some photos.........

Thanks for the positive comments Graeme and for making the effort to do the event, it is much appreciated. Great also to see (& hear) your car and a good number of others 'on it' during the evening. Re pics, there are a few floating about but sadly the pro photographer i was expecting to turn up (mentioning no names!), given our email correspondence in the days leading up to the event, failed to show for some reason. Drat!
