There was an identical machine at a similar Shell station on the road north out of Evesham.

Nice bit of footage shot in Finchley in June 1970 for an episode of 'The Persuaders' called 'The Long Goodbye'....

Only a few Minis in it but it's striking how clean and tidy everything looks.

That's a nice MGA Coupe there as well Kees! Not many about, and if that says MA-88-78 it looks like it isn't either anymore. I'm still upset a fellow club member bought a Coupe shell a few years ago only to cut the roof off! Said he preferred a roadster and couldn't find any coupe doors (I think they had wind-up windows, and definitely had door handles unlike the roadster!), such a waste.
Of course I know what a dipstick is, you get called something often enough you look it up!

It's near Andover in Hampshire. I reckon that shot is a BMC publicity photo?

Haha, I must have been typing while Mark was posting!

Is someone saying that in the olden days, someone would put the daily papers down, get of his fat arse, come out and fill your car up with petrol for 5 shilling a gallon........ Surely not........

You'll be surprised to hear there are still a few village petrol stations up here in the north that still have attendant service. Some of them get a bit shirty when you go for the pump yourself.

But at todays prices I would expect an oil level check, a screen clean and my tyres done.

At the price of petrol nowadays, I'd expect at least a B*** J**.
