Is it me or do the number plates and chassis plate look suspiciously new compared to the 'patina' of the rest of the car?

Regulator and fuse box in correct positions though.

Dash vinyl looks original too.

Maybe had rear end damage and brackets replaced … boot fit is awful ?!

Agree, think there is a quite a bit to point to being original basic car.

If it was an ex Police car would it have any tel tale holes for lights and radio etc….this is Peters territory

EDIT manufactured 69 registered 82, does that mean anything ? When they were released from service were they re-registered or was it written off and re-registered ?

I would have thought there would be (filled) holes in the roof and a zip in the headlining of an original Liverpool Police car (that was certainly the case for the Manchester ones my father drove in the late 1960s). They weren't re-registered or repainted at the end of their period of service - just had the Police equipment removed and were sold off (often for other models e.g. Capris with a vinyl roof added to cover up the filled in holes in the roof). There seems to be no evidence of this car having been Police White at any point - doors and boot lid are Maroon B on the inside suggesting a 998cc Super Deluxe?

The white paint on the roof is on top of the red rather than underneath it. The right hand tank also looks suspiciously freshly powder coated.

Its obviously had wings and front panel at some point maybe before it got really tatty
as you mention prob rear end damage as the bootlid looks the same colour as the front wings
with similar patina
The best repairs go un-noticed

Originally, yes - from when it was a 'proper' competing, successful rally car. Shame its now a tarted up shadow of its former self.
I'm sure Oz will add more detail

Mathewsons have this delightful '62 pickup for auction tomorrow.

https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/product/19 ... perwork-o/

Tempted as I am its looks too rough even for me.

Its bound to go for silly money.

Apparently most cars there are sold to dealers from the South.

How many cars has that been built from?

Watching the latest series of Bangers and Cash it appears that Mathewsons put on high reserves (could be the sellers asking), to see where the cars are bid to, and then negotiate a sale after the auction. Clever business model for them.

When I sold my Jag through Matthewson's I put it on at NO RESERVE & it went WAY HIGHER than I ever expected it too.

Surf , i can agree with your thoughts they will take the Highest Bid & that is the start of negotiations with their Seller irrespective of the Reserve not met .. before this policy a car unsold was rolled over to their next auction ..whatever that MGC seemed to be a good buy .. also to note that a Fuel Ration Book is a selling point with that Pickup ..

My thoughts exactly it really is a bitza - Mk2 heater, Morris Mk1 speedo, SDL binnacle, Mk3 seats, MK1 850 door cards.... Also of course the wrong tailgate for a 62 (it should be flat) and the wrong front panel (should be full skirt)

I don't even think those are Mk3 Mini seats. Mk3 ADO16 I reckon. And ADO16 bumper on the back too isn't it.
I wouldn't want that at any price ;)

At the right price I'd buy it, but in any auction would make far more than I'd pay.
