Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper now 8 Port
Now with trottle cable and linkage mounted.
After a short Christmas brake i will go on the new airbox and bonnet
I think i will also need to make something with the fuel banjos as they are mounted on top rater from the side like on older weber carbs.

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper now 8 Port
So after two attempts the third box was usable. (Geometry is not always easy... )
The bonnet had to be cut. Don't worry it is a modified mk2 bonnet...
The next thing in the new year will be a bulge in Aluminum to cover the Airbox.

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper now 8 Port
Having trouble today with the Engine only running on 3 pot's i found out it's always worth to double check the jets of the Carbs, even when they are new.
A nice little pice of alloy blocking the jet...

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper now 8 Port
Having waited almost a half a Year to get to the dyno, Monday was the day!
Whe traveled to Cologne to Viktor Günther Motorsport to get the Carbs set up properly.
The long waiting was revarded with a engine that pulls hard from 3000 to 7200 and a lot of horses and torque!
I can only recomend the service that VGS gave my mini and it was well spent money.
Next Job is to do a new airbox that looks a bit nicer and a new bonnet in aluminum.

It's great when a car comes off the rollers having made good power & given what you wanted isn't it.
Glad thjings are progressing, even after a bit of a wait.

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper now 8 Port
Almost forgot that i also put a new Exhaust before the Dyno!
It's the Maniflow reverse cone competition exhaust.
Surprisingly it's not as loud as expected wich makes riding the Mini very comfortable.

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper 8 Port
Lovely car and what a great thread, I just read the whole thing start to finish (although I did initially start another last page!) I look forward to seeing how the new bonnet fabrication turns out.
The dry ice blasting is a new one on me, looks very effective.

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper 8 Port
I remember being asked to attend a demo of dry ice blasting as a possible asbestos removal technique whilst I was an Inspector with HSE.
I went out of interest and it stripped paint really well, then I politely told them that 2 words I never wanted to hear in connection with asbestos removal were 'dry' and 'blasting'.
Never heard it mentioned again

Played a bit with the new Late.
The Brass Ring was missing so fabricated a new one.
The filler cap looks good

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper 8 Port
Little progress on the 8 Port Engine...
I took the Engine apart to find out why it was smoking so much.
Bores were still perfect, all Piston Rings still in one piece and the Gaps ok.
So the Head was crack tested and whe found nothing.
Finally when looking at the valve seals whe see that the notch (?) where the Valve seal should go inside to find his position was a bit to deep. This way the Seal formed like a funnel.
It also appeared that the seal did not pressured good to the valve.
So i decided to fit some better Seals with a metal collar.
Fitted, it also is now much less high than the original ones.

Re: 62 Austin Seven Cooper 8 Port
Not much unfortunately...
Had troubles with one of the Carbs and send them back for control and little modifications.
They blocked the Choke mechanism as i don't need it anyway and it's just an other source of error.
Then they also modified the fuel feed in the carbs.
Will get them back after Christmas and put them back on the Car as it need to go to the panelshop as the Alloy Bonnet will be fabricated...

I just saw the picture of your fantastic car with the maniflow exhaust. Ist seems to fit very well and very close to the floor. I can not see the handbrake cable, is it still underneath the reverse cone? I was thinking of buying this system for my rally car because it seems to have good ground clearance. Was it a straight fit? Are you happy with it?
Thank you very much, best wishes
Thomas
