Hi from surfblue63

Post by surfblue63 »

My car life started with VWs, I owned a string of rusty old aircooled during my first ten years of driving, but houses and children stopped all of that. I did have a Wolseley Hornet for a while in the '80's which cost £120. It lasted about 6 months before being sold to finance yet another VW.
The only new car I have ever brought was a Mini Ritz, 1986 I think. That lasted about 8 months before I got fed up with banging my head on the roof. I traded it for an MGB roadster.
Fast foward 20 years and I started looking for a car for my son to learn in. After a look at what was on offer I decided to find him a Mini and ended up buying a Mini Sprite. After about a week of owning it I thought what a laugh it was driving it about. I still have that Sprite, but it has changed a bit since then. The lad ended up with a one owner Mayfair.
Whilst the Sprite was away having the body done I started to look for a Cooper. After viewing 4 or 5 cars I found that finding a good genuine car was not easy. I had been to see a fiesta yellow 997 a couple of times but before buying it I spotted a '63 Austin Super Delux. It took me about 10 minutes to decide wheather it was the car for me. I've done 10,000 miles in it in the last 3 1/2 years.
I tried to find a Cooper again, but yet again my budget could not find a decent car and I ended up getting a '68 Traveller. It was a one owner car but hadn't been stored well after last use. The floors had been replaced before I brought it but the work is not the best. The engine was a bit knackered as well, but it's been rebuilt now with a few upgrades. The car really needs a full restoration before the rust gets to bad.
I am very much a driver of cars rather than a fixer and most weekends will be at some event with the camera in hand snapping away.
If you see me come and say hello

Following Jens lead here's the Minis

Beaulieu was wet, but I drove there and back over the weekend doing about 750 miles.

The Traveller went to Oulton, amongst other venues, were it lost a bit of an exhaust valve!

Finally put the Sprite on 10" rims and took it to Castle Coomb. BTW, it's still registered as a 1993 Rover despite the reg no.

I also have a couple of bikes that have been hiding in the shed for far too long

Nice cars, and bikes.

Could you tell where you got the whitewall tyres? They look great.

Are they scooter inserts, white tyre paint or something else?

They are the scooter inserts but I wouldn't recommend fitting them as they have damaged the tyre side walls but cutting groves into the tyres. :o :x Fortunately for me I put them onto a set of used spare tyres and wheels, so I haven't lost the cost of a set of new tyres :)
