I am very sorry to report the sad passing of Ray Sheppard on the 28th of December 2011.
Ray was foreman of the experimental shop at Downton. He was one of the Richmonds longest serving & most trusted employees working there from the late 50's until its final closure. I was lucky enough to meet Ray on a number of occasions over the last few years and found him to be one of the most fascinating, funny people I have ever met. I know that he will be sorely missed.

Re: Ray Sheppard RIP
He was 'the man' at Downton wasn't he, not just in terms of development but looked after the cars at the circuits aswell etc etc. I've put a little tribute in next month's MCR mag with a photo of him doing just that. What a shame when these characters go as they leave with all their stories most of the time with very little recorded. Very sad.

Re: Ray Sheppard RIP
Yes Ray really was the Richmond's top man.
He was always very unassuming & never really "went on" about his time at Downton, even when annoraks like me would have been prepared to listen for hours. Although he was obviously very talented he looked at his time at Downton first & foremost as a job. This is illustrated by the fact that he worked there until Bunty closed the "Works". The day after, he got a job at the local BL dealer in their workshops & worked there until his retirement in 2005.
