Re: Meet the real Dearg 1275 high backed recliner challenge
Right back to it. A bit of a holiday in southern climes got in the way (wet and windy Yorkshire Dales).
The resized base is now all welded up the next task was to establish the pivot centre for the NC mechanisms rotating them through 90 degrees and get them welded in.
This is the original recliner side plate that need to be replicated in 3mm steel.
Unfortunately there are just a few bits of the NC mechanism that get in the way. After a bit of chain drilling and filing etc you get this.
Tomorrow will see these welded in place on the underlying NC gear and a start on the seat back.

The frame is done. The back ended 15mm wider at the base which will cause no issues at all. Keeping it near true without an assembly jig involved light tack welds and then viewing from a distance and lots of measuring and cross checking against the original. And it actually works.

Re: Meet the real Dearg 1275 high backed recliner challenge
Roger,
I have done my the upholstery myself in the past but this time it will be done professionally. It really is a skill that takes time to develop and life is too short for that particular learning curve. This creation and the modified original will be heading down to Bradford for Pickering’s to work their magic. They made a superb job of seats for my mk3 YMO 881K.
Day light is beginning to be rationed up here now but we still have plenty of weather.

That’s the converted NC seat with extended back ready to go off to the upholsterers. Both that and the original on the left.
I don’t expect them back until after Christmas but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

At last I have my seats back. As said before I was sure it would be worth the wait. Hats of to A S Pickering of Bradford for making such a great job with little more than a couple of photos to go on. They did have my previous DIY attempt as a pointer to what was required but these are in a different class all together.
They are not a matched pair and will live separate lives as navigators seats.
