Hate to state the obvious but you might have been better off looking into it before you bought it? Not a great shock that nobody wants to talk. Surely all he’d have to do is tell you how he got it? Where he found it? Not difficult questions to answer, he owned it long enough.
WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.

Hmm thats a bit unfortunate as i would imagine Simon Epsom is the one of the only people who would be able to answer any questions on this car. seeing as he had is for so long. And so long agoExminiman wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 2:24 pmAs Pete alluded to, It my well of been the "History" that they fell out aboutPete wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 2:11 pmHate to state the obvious but you might have been better off looking into it before you bought it? I can imagine RB plaguing him after buying it though, customer from hell !!
Maybe go back to Simon and as Pete says can he not tell you anything ?
Surely he can tell you how he got the car.
Reading between the lines i can imagine that RB would have applied a lot of pressure for proof about this car being the 6th or was it 5th oldest S
If it was me asking i would come outright and say i am not looking for proof of that.
just a little history on how he came to own the car
Wish you luck in finding info on the car

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Bob bought the Cooper s and a pickup from Simon, apparently simon didn’t let the number plate go with the pickup , Bob took him to court and since then, Simon as basically said you can get lost and won’t talk to him, I know Bob has had other people ring Simon up for him pretending to be new owners trying to get information out of him and can only imagine he thinks the same about me, I have no doubts about the car, it would have been nice to talk to Simon more but think Bob has blown that

Maybe word will eventually get back to Simon that you are a bonafide new owner with a genuine interest in the history, not in building up a story. Then he may warm to you and talk.
Being open on this forum probably puts you in the best circle of enthusiasts and connected people that you could hope to be, some of which I'm sure will talk to Simon on occasion.
Elsewise just enjoy the car, continue to do your own research and who knows what may unfold in time.

This seems like a really complicated way of carrying a spare ignition coil

Bypasses the points and condenser also. Basically a continuous spark generator, relies on the distributor rotor arm for approximate ignition timing. A bit like the buzz box ignition on early vintage cars - Ford model T etc.jayare wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 12:02 am This seems like a really complicated way of carrying a spare ignition coil

Interesting car with claimed provenance, has it been discussed here before as a few things don't quite add up???

No, I put a speculative bid on, but was the underbidder. I already have a couple of NOS ones in a drawer somewhere.AndyPen wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 1:45 pmDid you win it Mark???mk1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 11:22 am This was a bargain!

He's having a laugh isn't he?? Does he REALLY imagine somebody is going to turn up with £45,000 for that? With that bodged up floor, wrong interior, no hydrolastic, missing badges and goodness knows whatever else wrong with it He's been trying to sell it for ages without success which should tell you something Doesn't it have a full skirt front panel too? Not at all clear whether he is or isn't now the owner either.AndyPen wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 1:52 pm Interesting car with claimed provenance, has it been discussed here before as a few things don't quite add up???

From the ad - "I NOW HAVE OWNERSHIPS"
I think at £20k he'd shift it quicker.

I remember that car at local shows in the 90s. I agree it does have features of a much earlier (non Cooper) Mini and way overpriced for what’s on offer. Trouble is when it’s so far out on price he won’t even get an offer.
