Goodwood MM78 Gerry Marshall Final, What a Race!

Just appeared on Youtube is the final of this weekends Gerry Marshall Trophy. Not a lot of Mini action but it is a great race

Made me want to buy a Capri :(

Ric Wood Capri and a quick driver equals good racing! Glad to see something other than a V8 win!

Well, if you fancy the power of a Boss302 in the body of a Capri, perhaps I can help...

Built by British Touring Car Champion's business 'Race Proved' having been with FMC Motorsports and then Wilment Racing - Jeff Uren up engined Escorts, Cortina's, Capris and Transits! in the 60s and 70s (and 80s) all with FMC's blessing and warranties. Comanche Capris were being built with Zephyr 3ltrs well before FMC got there, but of course when Henry did, that market stopped dead. So what next? Only a Boss V8 motor into Mk1 facelift, and a single Mk2 - which is the sole survivor (Boss 302's have always been worth more than a rusty capri. - the mustang is named after its engine which is unique in its Windsor primary dimension family being designed solely to win Trans Am for the Blue Oval.....When it did ,the program was shut down with just 7700 homologation mustangs built and the balance of engines for the racing program) The only reason our Stampede (as the seven V8 Capri's were known) was because ours had a very sheltered life with one owner from construction until 2013 - 37 years. And a true 22k miles total.
Perfect provenance, with letters discussing the build to order spec, Race Proved Reciept from FMC for the purchase of a Management Role Car (car for Company staff in Essex) Directly it was built it was sent to another 70's icon - Mech Spray - famous for painting cars for the Great and the Good as well as countless celebs of the time. Who remembers DLT and his yank tanks? Yes they were from Mech Spray too as was Lady P's 6 wheeler Royce. The Stampede was actually used to prototype details which appeared on the Custom Paint show winner French Connection. Then its sporadic usage and ultimately our recommissioning which includes its third engine job! 1- 'blueprinting' before install, 2- blow up on its stock piston, 3- on our getting the car it developed a hollow cam follower, so another tear down and rebuild to a spec developed by Peter Knight. Actually we re cubed it to go back to stock clearances on Std dimensions except pistons which were machined over by 6thou...to give us stock bore clearance again.

So, all this history and more, absolutely the sole survivor, for the same money as a properly built 1275S... (but x4 power?) Google it and by all means message me.

Actually in Trans Am trim the Boss302s were doing 425-450bhp 1969-70, and in early 80's the Essex V6 was doing similar numbers for the Touring cars...

Group 1/1.5 Capri wasn’t doing that BHP, a modern Cosworth GAA build might.

Hopefully they put the full video of heat 1 up with the Minis and that my brother build the engine of the winning VW Golf and the Scirocco that should have finished second before been binned.
