Maybe he nicked it!nick@dunsdale wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 1:39 pm I wonder what the real story is with the TR8
Such a strange tale on the listing you would have thought a collector would have stored it better and also tried to sell it on long ago
The TR7/8 shape and look imo have aged quite gracefully still look okay today, apart from the bumpers as many wedge shape cars from the 70's and 80's the bumpers look like a complete ill fitting after thought.
A detail that a lot of car builders from over the pond go to great lenghs to improve upon

Re: At The Auctions
There was very similar un-registered TR8 not that long ago for sale on C&C .. that TR8 described a back door clearance sale to a BL Director by using a Leyland Dealer at that time.

The cars build has been verified with a British Motoring Heritage Certificate, which confirms it was built on 12th November 1980. Finished in Pendelican White with a tan interior, the heritage certificate for this TR8 automatic convertible also confirms the cars pre-production status, or as the factory called it “method build”, which makes it very rare indeed, especially in RHD configuration. This essentially means the car was one of the first TR8 models created in order to work through build snags before going into full production.

Wouldn’t take too much to get it back to standard spec - ditch the later plastic arches and wheels etc.
So I make that just under £30k GBP all in.

Very impressed to see that the hideous velour interior has gone all baggy despite no one ever having sat on the seat. BL quality at it's finestsurfblue63 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 2:19 pmhttps://www.taketotheroad.co.uk/unregis ... o-auction/

Re: At The Auctions
Coming up at H7H on Wednesday 6th Oct is this Mk2 850. At first I thought it looked cheap, at £6-8,000, but then realised why. Would make a good base for an historic rally car, but would be a labour of love to restore to original specification.

Re: At The Auctions
$16,200 USD + 5% buyers premium seems like a pretty good deal for what is basically a Cooper S Mk3 under the covers.

That Marigold Minivan has been for sale for ever hasn't it. The estimate is ridiculous bearing in mind it was advertised at around £30,000 at one time

Re: At The Auctions
This Marigold van has been around the shows in Midlands a while ago. The problem is that the shell has a recessed screen aperture dating it later than claimed. A van of this age should have the flat aperture. The shell appears newer than claimed. It would also be interesting to see a shot of the engine bay showing the bulkhead.Old English White » Sat Oct 09, 2021 8:01 am

However if it sold for the estimate then it would still be a bargain

Nice Pre-Export. You don't see many of those, nice example despite the modified interior.iain1967s wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 3:49 am $16,200 USD + 5% buyers premium seems like a pretty good deal for what is basically a Cooper S Mk3 under the covers.

This is a nice looking S, but is it 65k nice? Seems like a dreamer's price to me.
Of course I know what a dipstick is, you get called something often enough you look it up!

Re: At The Auctions
Certainly a great rarity in that condition but it isn't totally original is it and does seem rather overpriced. You could use it just as it is of course but most people would want to improve it - and where would you stop? You could easily spend a great deal of money on a car like that.

Completely agree, it would be easy to lose the character and end up with another Parnell lookalike .....Old English White wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 8:39 am Certainly a great rarity in that condition but it isn't totally original is it and does seem rather overpriced. I ahve looked at that van a couple of times. If it was bought for that sort of price, it would be well worth it!
