Corgi Mini Cooper 'S' 1967 Monte-Carlo Winner replica

As someone who has a large collection of original Corgi models that I had as a child from the 1960's boxed up in my loft, (My dad owned a toy shop at the time!) I'm interested to know if the many Corgi replicas below now being produced are affecting the values of the original models?

in a word no ,there's a lot of very minor differences and a couple of major ones ,between the original issues and the Chinese manufactured Re Issue,as nice as the new ones are they don't quite cut it in some ways.

Here's a couple of originals that I have.

The one on the left has been thrashed to with an inch of it's life, whilst the other looks to be a restoration job.

You can see that the rivets holding the spare are different sizes...

...but the bases are the same. The eagle eyed will spot that the play worn one has the ribbed corgi tyres, and the resto has the earlier round walled tyres.

When I get to them I will have a look at the ones I have that are boxed, including the two 177 number Whizzwheels versions that were painted yellow and white.

Depends on condition. My rough one is worth about £5. The resto is worth £10.

One with a few chips to the paint is worth around £25-30. A mint unboxed could be up to £100, but it would have to be very good. Just one minor blemish could see the price drop by 25%. To see how wildly the value vary just look at the boxed ones I posted on page 1 of this thread

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the original made in England Corgi model Monte Cooper S's had a folded up piece of paper inside the box giving some history etc etc. Seemingly, this is what makes them worth top prices. Is this correct?

Yes that's correct Peter, I'm missing one of these, so it's almost worth buying the new model for the letter

Just dug out a couple of the later Whizzwheels versions of the 177 Mini.

Both a very battered and abused and based on the Morris casting. Two types of wheel have been fitted, and eagle eyed will spot that one has a black steering wheel and one has a silver grey wheel. Also the car on the right has had replacement decals applied. Obviously the base casting was updated to have the Whizzwheels trade mark cast into it.

With all the little differences you can understand why some collectors can get all excited about they various versions and need to buy all of them. Me I just buy them if they are cheap.

The winning 177 is most often pictured with the 177 on a yellow background.
Winners in earlier years had the number on a white background.

Can anyone explain to me why or what the significance of yellow vs white is?

I see that CORGI are now part of HORNBY - as in Hornby locomotives. Plus our old favourite, Airfix.

And I am still waiting for the royalties to come from the limited edition - of 2 million (?) of my Liverpool Police mini....... (just joking!)
