But lack of photo's to show the important places for authenticity.... interior, boot area and engine bay as these would show it to be a made up one
Pretty sure it's the same one that has been on Ebay a few times
From memory the biggest tell was the bonnet prop was on wrong side for an early car, i am sure there were several tell area's on this one.
Does look nice though just priced way to heavy
Apologies if this is not the same car
The best repairs go un-noticed
Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
If that's original it been butchered. W&P did not trim the edges of the grille

including a couple of engine bay shots
No hydro, no body number on slam panel, holes in top of inner wings, my guess is that this is a reshell. As for price, GTs have been selling like hot cakes recently, and very few appear to be restored to original spec.

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Definite reshell into a vanilla clubman shell and not a complete GT to start with either (wrong servo brackets).surfblue63 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 4:17 pm No hydro, no body number on slam panel, holes in top of inner wings, my guess is that this is a reshell. I think it would've looked better to have the wrong body number than none at all (and if you did feel the need to have none, at least weld the drilled holes up so its not as obvious )
Later grille too - the top piece screwed back to the slam panel should be black painted steel on an early one.

Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Its a complete ringer as previously discussed - late shell with square transmission tunnel and no drip rails. Apart from that:floormanager wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 7:25 pmWrong pedals tooGraemeC wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 4:47 pmDefinite reshell into a vanilla clubman shell and not a complete GT to start with either (wrong servo brackets).surfblue63 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 4:17 pm No hydro, no body number on slam panel, holes in top of inner wings, my guess is that this is a reshell. (a) wrong servo and brackets
(b) wrong inner wings (should be no holes)
(c) wrong bonnet prop and bonnet prop position - it is on the wrong side for a 1970
(d) wrong washer bottle - shouldn't have Tudor on it
(e) wrong engine colour - should be green on a 1970 without any rocker cover sticker other than a leyland logo sticker on the front.
(f) wrong rocker cover - early 1970 1275GTs had a spout
(g) no hydro
(h) carbs are twin HS4s - an option with the "Pluspac"
(i) wrong wheels - should be 10" rostyles
(j) wrong seats - later type recliners fitted. If it was a 1970 with recliners the lever would come out of the side of the base with a cream knob
(k) wrong seat covers - it should have the early more thickly padded stitched type not the later, flatter electrically welded type
(l) wrong heater - an early 1970 has a plastic cased heater with a bright metal edge to the control panel
(m) wrong eyeball vents - they should be chrome and of the early type (with the small "toothpaste tube" type knob in the middle)
(n) wrong carpets - should be veltone
(o) rear bins should be covered in black vinyl)
(p) wrong seatbelts - should either be Kangol magnet with BL logos or early Kangol arrow static with the central floor mounted twin buckle
(q) wrong interior light - an early 1970 would have a late Mk2 type interior light mounted at the side
(r) wrong boot handle - an early 1970 generally has a MK2 type boot handle
(s) wrong rev counter - an early 1970 has a 6000 rpm red lined rev counter - the 6500 came in when the final drive ratio was changed later in production.
(t) no body number or FE number
(u) brand new reproduction commission number and chassis number plates
So, certainly "rebuilt from the bottom up" (in fact using 100% different parts...) but certainly not the case that "the car was kept original in every area"....
Re: WTH??!?! Have you seen this item on ebay.
Not really up on the GT as we never had them over here. Could someone confirm if they think that has a rod change gear lever....
I would have thought the 70 GT would have had a remote shifter.
Don't see a cut out box on the firewall.....
Brake clutch pedals look like later style too.
Also, would the GT have had the silver displacers same as the MK 3 S??

Yes it has a rod change - you can tell by the gear lever gaitor. It should indeed have a remote attached to an 1128 all synchro close ratio box...360gts wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 5:29 pm Not really up on the GT as we never had them over here. Yes the displacers should be silver banded.

Good question.Andrew1967 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 5:56 pm Is there a specific change point for the bonnet prop position ?
Some time in mid to late 1970 as far as I can work out. It is rather like the bonnet hinges. 1969 built cars had bonnet hinges that bolt up into tapped threads in the bonnet framework. By the beginning of 1970 this had switched to the usual arrangement - bonnet hinges with threaded studs sticking out and flanges with oblong holes welded to the bonnet framework. Not sure why - perhaps there were problems with threads stripping, the bonnet slipping in the open position or it was just very hard to adjust! Its another of those early production quirks. My GT built early March 1970 has the conventional arrangement.

Thanks, that answers another question too.
Noted the comment about rev counter … I thought the early ones were 6500 red line with the early diff and went to 6000 with the higher ratio diff.
Also, would a mid 70 have a metal or plastic air cleaner casing ?

I always understood that to be the case too, the 6.5k ones are certainly rarer and have the older style PCB connections etcAndrew1967 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 7:31 am
