Guten Morgen Herr Dr Mabo. Can we expect to see this brilliant recreation of a Broadspeed GT at Beaulieu next year? Craftsmanship at its very best

Re: Time lapse full metal Broadspeed GT restoration/transformation
Many years (decades) ago I was sent on a course and was asked "What does good look like?" The consultant did not understand my response "no comment!" At the time we were completing Office refurbishment projects within unrealistic timescale out of hours and in budget in a very stressful business environment with no financial loss to the business with ZERO Feedback, negative or positive.
Dr Mabo your work really is "WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE!" Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for all the words of praise and encouragement. I feel very honoured.
With all outsourced tasks, you always need a lot of patience, especially with the painter .
In the meantime you have to use the time wisely. And when the bodyshell is out of the house, all that's left is the mechanics. Now the gearstick lever including remote shift housing was in the cue. The original gearstick lever is comparatively short, but it fits the seating position of the standard seats. Since my seating position will be much further back, the gearstick lever has to come with me. A quick-shift like this, suits me very well in both senses. The gearstick lever is longer, but more importantly, it is also strongly cranked. To make it look even more nice, I use a beautiful aluminium gearshift knob with a Broadspeed sign . It's also quite long, but let's see how it fits afterwards.

Re: Time lapse full metal Broadspeed GT restoration/transformation
The Broadspeed is not only supposed to look fast, but also to have adequate thrust. For this purpose, it gets an engine that was originally built for racing, but was never really used.
I disassembled the engine, took stock of it and configured it in such a way that it should be useable on the road. What doesn't fit at all is the red engine colour. In order to match the classic appearance of the 60s, the only acceptable engine colour is Mid Bronze Green . So first of all, off with the red paint. The block is drilled second oversize and fitted with OMEGA pistons.
The head is a pure stock head..... at least from the Longman stock type GT15 . This means intensively ported with 37.5mm intake and 31mm exhaust valves. Accordingly, the valves must also be offset so as not to tickle each other's poppets .

Re: Time lapse full metal Broadspeed GT restoration/transformation
I also made a few modifications to the engine. If you want to have 1275 engine ventilation on the radiator side, the only option is usually to vent via the timing chain cover, unless you have a Cooper S block. With the ventilation on the timing chain cover, however, the space to the fan wheel becomes rather tight, so that it is often flattened in an unattractive way. The Innocenti engines had a very clever solution. On the back of the plate for the timing chain there was an opening with a small connection for a vent box. But you first have to have or find such a plate and box. That's why I built such a vent myself and optimized it a bit. In the first picture you can see an Innocenti breather in the foreground as a sample. I used the piece with the flange from a no longer needed oil pipe from the gearbox. So I also have a suitable paper seal for it. For the breather I used the rear breather of a 1000cc engine. Two welded-in stud bolts in the plate make it possible to remove the breather when it is installed. With the Innocenti plate, the timing chain cover has to be removed. With this modification, it can be done without removing the cover.

That's a very neat solution - I've never seen it done like that before but it makes perfect sense! And excellent workmanship and finish as always.

I was just reading your post and thought "unless you've got an Inno engine plate" which was then entirely the point you were getting to.
Great stuff Doc, keep it up.

It's always nice when the outsourced tasks continue as well. The preparations for painting have continued and a clean and, above all, smooth foundation has been created for the final coat of paint.
Even though the Surf Blue is still missing here, I can already look at these pictures for hours.
My favorite photos are 2 and 3 because I like the reflections of the light.
