A very rare 'Tilling' converted Mini....looked to be a great restoration project, not seen any other survivors for many years.

Simon Ridge helped confirm this Mini on show on the Mini Seven Club stand is the late Chris Tyrrell's old Mini Seven racer as last raced by Ross Buckingham....hopefully it will be restored back to Chris's 'Calbrook' Mini spec as a part of Mini 7 history.

A Tilling car alive and very, very well restored in Warwickshire recently. Never rallied or so I am told!

Why’s that then? No MINIS racing either. Why don’t more owners take their Classic Minis to events like this?

Re: Brands Hatch Mini Festival August 22nd
Not sure Pete, like you with no MINI races this year I expected far more classic Minis and clubs would be on show than MINIs. Brands Hatch has plenty of space for both to have large dedicated display areas. Perhaps it is the entry price on the gate (£25/£20 seniors on the day) but for the number of great classic Mini races from early morning onwards, packed into what is now a one day event for the public it seemed pretty good value to me, including access to the race paddock which (at least to me) is far more interesting than the rows of factory standard cars with all their original period mods removed that you often see at the regular Mini shows now. In a way it is good to see a new generation of MINI owners keen to show their cars, many of which seem to be modified to a high standard, although they do have the advantage of not dealing with much in the way of rust problems!
The best attended Brands Hatch Mini Festivals were when it was first revived a few years ago and like in the 1960's anyone arriving in a Mini or MINI got the car and driver in free and was directed on entry to the internal Mini/MINI parking areas. I think that got stopped after a couple of years when movement of cars was stopped in the public areas once the event opened to the public, I also think BH decided too many people were getting in for free, although the upside was the greater number of Minis of all sorts on show.
The number of race spectators seemed higher this year, maybe because of good weather and the desire to get out after the lockdowns, also a one day event with double header races, rather than spread out over a weekend seemed far better value and entertainment to me for the paying public.

I enjoyed it too, a great event for Mini fans....the Mini magazines never seem to fully support it or attend either, strange considering historically it was probably the first major Mini event to happen back in the 1960's.floormanager wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:09 pm Well I enjoyed it. Very sorry I did not photo your Mini floormanger, I was not as thorough in wandering around and picking out the interesting classic Minis on show this year for the Mk1 forum, as time was short due to the packed double header race timetable starting fairly early morning!

Some you photographed were close to mine. Here's a clue (the blue one). Oddly Island Blue of this parish was incognito in the red one!
Now you see why I need you to photograph my car - mine are rubbish!! You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Brands Hatch Mini Festival August 22nd
Another problem with taking photos at shows is the best Minis usually have a small interested crowd around them who take forever to move out the way.....or when they do they get replaced by some more!
Re: Brands Hatch Mini Festival August 22nd
Just have to be patient when taking pics, some people are polite and know what you are up to, but some are ignorant and wrapped up in their own little world, just like everywhere else. I have waited 10 minutes sometimes for the crowd and clouds to move to get a good shot.
