Joe Anastasi from Malta was coming to the UK to compete at the Mini Festival at Brands on the 22 August, but unfortunately his sponsor who was responsible for shipping the car, van and trailer to and from Southampton, pulled out leaving him no time to make alternative arrangements. Joe was also hoping to do a few hill climbs as well while he was over here, so to say he was disappointed is an understatement! However, his disappointment has been tempered by being asked to join the Maltese team for the forthcoming European Hill Climb Masters in Portugal in October.

If the parade car at the start of the races looks like it’s driven by an idiot,it is because it’s me. I’ll be driving my mk2 Cooper,Antelope with a white roof.

The Marcos behind tried to get through a gap on the inside of Burnett that wasn’t there and hit the rear quarter which punted him off into the Armco . Looked like a hard hit!

Have to say the bits of live stream I watched for this event were excellent! Big well done to the team that produced it!

Just watched & re watched the incident on the first corner. The Marcos was totally in the wrong, he was going for a gap that wasn't there in the slightest. Just ended up punting Mark off using the Pitt manoeuvre.

Had a great day at the Brands Hatch Mini Festival yesterday, nice to go to a 'normal' event once again and meet up with old friends from the world of Mini racing after the year of lockdowns. I think it works much better as a single day event with a race in the morning and a second race after the lunch break for most classes, making it good value for the £25 entrance ticket (especially for us senior citizens @ £20). :D
Despite no modern MINI races at this years event (I think they support the British Touring Car Championship) it looked to me like the impressive turnout and variety of mainly modified BMW MINI's and MINI Clubs far outnumbered the classic Minis on show for the first time.
A few photos below from the show areas and the race paddock below....
