Which Front Wheel Bearing set should I use?
I will convert my 62 Countryman to 7" disk brakes (should be better than Single Leading Shoes) and I am not sure what bearing set I should purchase. The swivel hub part #s are BTA 186 and BTA 187. Somerford's website indicates that I should use the following part: GHK1018. Another website (US) 7ent.com says that I can also use the tapered bearings, GHK1140, as used on the Cooper S. Can I use either part #s? I would like to use the tapered set if they will work with my swivel hub/drive flange. Can anyone educate me on which set I should purchase?

dont quote me on it but i think cooper 7" setups use standard drum type outer CV's, so i think you have to use non disk bearings...
the only cars i ever had with 7" brakes where my first two cars wich where mk2 coopers and i cant really remember, ive allwase gone to 7.5" S ones .but the 7" ones are okay, good set of pads and well adjusted rear drums and for a road car untill you thrash it there isnt much difference.

Spot on Adam,
7" discs use ball bearing races as standard. Taper rollers have been known to be fitted as an 'up grade' but there is a question on how high to torque the CV nut. The standard 7" CV has a smaller thread not exactly designed to take 150 Lb/ft of the S set up! If left at a lower torque the taper bearings can try to 'spread' giving loose wheel bearing symptoms.
Having driven on 7" Cooper discs I would say that a set in 'as new/overhauled' condition with a set of good pads (Mintex 1144) are a good usable set up.
